What Is The Deal With El Nakhla?

Recommended Posts

I have been reading some reviews of Nakhla on this forum and I am absolutly befuddled when people tell me that not only can el nakha take a bit more heat than other shishas but it has good smoke quality and flavor.

Every single time I have ever smoked El nakhla I have found that the smallest amount of heat will burn it. I have put 1/4 of a three-kings 33mm on a bowl and still had Nakhla burn. The smoke quality is miniscule (when I use 1 33mm withstanding the awful burning taste) compared to romman, starbuzz or hookah hookah. Furthermore I feel like all of the flavors taste identical.

This only happens to me when I smoke El Nakhla or Al Waha, every other brand is just fine and dandy. The only time I have ever enjoyed El Nakhla is when I was messing around with my bowl a year ago and put a foil ring in between 2 layers of foil. Then the burning taste was not there.

Could it be that it needs to acclimate? Is the store that i get it from selling expired shisha? Or does El Nakhla just suck compared to starbuzz, romman and other premium shisha?

Nahkla is a perfectly good tobacco.

I have no idea why you can't make it smoke. However more details of your shisha and what style tobacco bowl might be usefull.

What kind of coals do you use?

I'm afraid getting starbuzz or al waha to smoke is a bit like riding a tricycle. Getting older skool style tobacco's like nahkla to smoke is like riding in the Tour de France tongue.gif

Hah, Tour de France my ass... Nakhla smokes as easily as starbuzz in my experience. I use the same phunnel setup, same amount of coals (3 pieces of exotica 1/4s or 1/3s, depending on the size of phunnel) and get plenty of flavor and smoke. My only complaint with Nakhla is that the flavors are rather basic.

Oh, Nakhla mango is one that I wasn't impressed with regarding flavor, it was very light... good smoke still though.

well I was using a regular old mya bowl with tinfoil and 3-kings quicklights. I even tried Nakhla in the PHunnel with mod recently but it was still bad.

Hmm. That's interesting.

I can't get nahkla to smoke out of the funnel either. I just don't entertain it.

I have also never smoked nahkla out of a mya bowl. I, PERSONALLY, think they are too deep and narrow.

Try and get a deep, yet wide(ish) traditional style bowl. Nahkla is an old skool tobacco that like's an old skool setup.

Also - Where on teh planet are you? As acclimating it may help, and also you may be getting older supplies... like me.

with nakhla you need to pull apart all the little pieces apart until you have a fluffy pile of tobacco large enough to fit the bowl. and when you pack the bowl you need to make sure that you leave about 1/10th of an inch of space between the tobacco and foil.

and offcourse it`s always important to use good coals, if you`re using quicklights i would recommend 3 kings, and if you prefer "naturals" i would recommend belgian or cococha coconut coals.

i agree, nakhla was the first hookah tobacco i ever smoked and i never had problems getting it to smoke. i always used 40mm 3kings in the beginning and a simple egyptian bowl, it always resulted in good smokes.

Makes you wonder why so many people struggle to get it to smoke...

Nakhla smokes amazing, you just need to fool around with the setup for a bit and find out what works for you. From what you wrote it seems that the ash might be getting into the bowl, making the smoke taste foul. I use single foil (the good quality one) with a bunch of pin-holes in the foil, along with a bigger hole smack in the middle.

i acclimate my nakhla for about 2-3 hours before smoking...

think about it - the phunnel doesnt really matter when it comes to nakhla, because it doesnt have alot of stray juices like layalina or tangiers. i use a standard egyptian bowl thats pretty wide but shallow. i can get it to smoke well...

although i will admit when i just had a Mya bowl - it was tough.

I found that smoking nakhla through foil makes an extremely bad taste when you break the coal or put another on. You might try a screen.

nakhla is great and has been in production for so long
but different strokes for different folks
i can just load it up over the rim of a standard bowl poke holes and use a whole 3k just touching the rim of the bowl you might want to make sure it isnt too try it should be more oily than anything

i love nakhla dub apple >.< my first ever self-set up smoke

its my "nostalgia" smoke.

Thats interesting Romman Double Apple is my "nostalgia" smoke I guess when it comes to hookah it really is different folks with different strokes. Or at least there's only a certain amount of somebody else's stroke you can stroke untill you find your own stroke.
