Id say it's not realy worth it. You can make your own, and all they really do is quiet down the rattling of the hookah while hitting.

I have one and its not worth it in my opinion... too much hassle to put it on and take it off and clean it for the very small advantage that it provides.

IF you need a high quality silencer for your hookah....its not a bad $10. But sound isnt really your concern, then dont waste the money. i did

yeah, it made kashmir peach alot smoother for me. the heba diffuser is also nice for when you want to watch a movie, so you don`t get distracted by the bubbling sound.

do i think its worth the money? yes, but i only paid 2 euros ($3) for it.

to me, it is very worth it. boulderkid, i, too, have noticed that it makes Tangiers smoother and easier on the lungs. it's quieter and just FEELS smoother. it also makes the smoke thicker, or at least it has when i have used it. furthermore, the water in the vase doesn't spash as high when it bubbles. i sometimes have a problem with people pulling so hard on the hose that it gets moisture to splash up into the hose port and can get unwanted moisture into your hose. this is a really bad thing if it is not washable. the diffuser makes the bubbles smaller, but there are more of them, so it eliminates the chance of water splashing too high.

i love my diffuser. it's not a hassle to put on once you get the hang of it. i just grab the soft rubber part with some tongs and hold it under hot faucet water until it is flexable enough to slip over the bottom of the stem. once i did it enough times, it got really easy.

for me, the quietness the diffuser provides is very convenient. Especially when my wife is on the phone, or like shisha fan said, during a movie.

you have to fill the water up higher than normal, though. so using it on a QT would be very hard. trust me, i tried this and it is a bad idea. i had almost no air in the vase.

all in all, it's not NEEDED, but i highly recommend it if you like a quiet, smooth smoke. Edited February 8, 2008 by Dom

I say its worth having a diffuser but not necessarilly spending ten dollars on one. I did tho because I was a noob when I bought it, and I make alot of impulse buys. No regrets on the purchase tho.

I have the pair of them from H-S... I'll use them maybe twice a month, or 1 in 20 or 30 hookah sessions... only if I'm watching a mellow movie with my girl and we don't want the pipe making noise.

In every other case, I like the sound a waterpipe makes, it's a major factor in its relaxation-properties. The diffuser doesn't noticeably increase smoke density.

Maybe get one if you're a spy, and you need to smoke hookah while you're on a secret mission and you don't want to be heard? Edited February 8, 2008 by gaia.plateau

Best homemade diffuser I made was the "straw method" found in the how-to funhouse section. Take as many straws you need, stick them up the downstem.

yes, it is too much, even with the smaller one. i havn't even tried the large one on any of my hookahs. it's the height of the diffuser that messes it all up with the QT. you have to slide the stem way down to the bottom of the diffuser because if you don't, it'll hit the bottom, and that forces you to raise the water level up past the diffuser. your water level should only be a quarter inch or so above the bottom of the stem WITHOUT the diffuser. with, the diffuser, you have to raise it up a quarter inch above the diffuser, which is about an inch above the bottom of the stem. that leaves about a 1/2 inch from where the QT slenders into the neck of the vase, which gives you almost no volume for the smoke. it will work, but man, i like to be able to see my stem to judge how thick my smoke is in relation to how well i can see the stem.

i suggest if you want it, and the only hookah you have is a QT, then just wait until you have a hookah with a large base before you get it.

making one? i have heard of people simply drilling small holes in the bottom 1/4 inch to 1 inch section of the stem, then filling the water a quarter inch above the holes. i may do this on my egyptian.

I like it, it works, I always use a diffuser for smoother smoking. Honestly, the $10 price in the USA is a ripoff-here in Europe is sells for about two bucks. They really should lower the price on it, I don't mind paying but this is honestly marked up WAY above what it should be. It should be given away with all new hookahs. But I always use a diffuser.
