sagrr
So I finally put together all the pieces of my hookah, and used it with some of my friends. It was good... Maybe my friend back at home (im in college) just had a better hookah, but I think there must be something I could do to make it better. The smoke it gets is thick, but not exactly smooth. It's not harsh, but it's not smooth...I noticed that the rubber part that goes between the clay bowl and the tray has become mis-shapen because of the burnt coals that fall burn it. Did I do something wrong? (pics?)My friend says that milk in the base makes it better.. true? How much exactly should I clean the hookah after using it every time? Just water wash all the pieces? The pipe also seems a little burnt, but theres no holes? Does this matter? (pics?)I know that the coals we got were somewhat crappy. Should this matter? Canon
are you using foil? and milk in the base is good but use coconut milk so it wouldnt agitate as much. but the smoke should still be smooth, since its your first hookah you have alot of learning to do, it takes time to perfect the art of making a hookah (im still working on it btw)cleaning it.. you need a brush and use the brush on the inside of the stem. if you dont have one then go and buy one from a hookah store or online. and yes clean the hookah after everytime, if you dont take care of it, it will rust (eventually)if theres a burned taste then you need to clean it. either that or its the welding that they did.coals are an important part of smoking hookah, if you have bad coals it makes the smoke taste bad. im sure everyone will agree with me on this one. Seanij
Dont use any dairy milk or dairy products.Ruins your hookah, as canon said Coconut Milk is good.
sagrr
I noticed that the site link from the beginner's sticky thread here for setting up your hookah talks about wetting the base grommet so that you don't lose air. I don't even think I have one of those, but I have a rubber piece thing thats been burnt. I'm guessing this is important and I'm losing air? staygone
Is the rubber thing on the base of the stem, right above the downstem? If you don't have one of those get one.Airtight seal makes all the wonders. As for milk, only a little bit if you really want to, water alone works well enough.-QM

Sariél
Sounds like that place is a head shop that knows nothing about hookahs. Sinces you're in Hollywood, I recommend going a little further to a shop on the south side of Hollywood blvd, just west of Cahuenga. They have a good stock of accessories and know which end is up. I think they are called B&R Imports or something like that. There is also another place just across the street and a couple blocks east, between Vine and Gower. The only drawback is parking. On the plus side, if you see a crazy homeless dude in a gold lamé top hat outside, its probably HR from the band Bad Brains. Tell him Chuckie said HI! guesswhoy0
Is it just the flash thats making your coals glow purple? If not, what coals are those?
sagrr
Wow, this sucks especially because this place is about an hour away from. Oh well, I'll just get it from a smoke shop around here.
