I get freaked out cuz you guys tell me to dump the water after each hookah. Is it ok for the tube to sit in the water for a couple hours?

I would assume its ok, just wanted to double check.

i dont see why not, my downstem has been sitting in the base in the water for over a day now lulz...no probz, im dumping it shortly

but as we learned from eric, what the ysay is "stainless steel" is really galvanized steel. dont let the stem sit in water, it'll speed the metal's rusting process...

I usually empty and change mine I load up a new bowl, so the stem is always sitting in the water. It hasn't corroded any of mine, and I have one that I've been using almost 4 years now. The only corrosion I've found was on my abyss, and it rusted through just above the heart, the downstem is still in perfect shape.

I think its more a matter of new life forms growing in the water, and having to clean some nasty gunk out of the vase than eating through the metal.

I am, however, cleaning out the bowl immediately after smoking the kamal samples, before it bonds and I have to pry and scrape the thing with steel wool. That's some sticky stuff!

I have a cheap unbranded Eqyptian hookah, I used to leave the stem in water for MONTHS at a time! And it hasn't corroded. I think its stainless steel

if i leave mine in the nasty ass water for days the most i have to do is wipe the outside off with a sponge.

Well i think it's more of a question of personal hygiene standards rather than metallurgy.

I normally clean my out at the end of a session. So the stem sits in water around 3hrs max. Then it gets cleaned with warm soapy water and DRIED.

On occasions, maybe 1 time in 20, I am so drunk that I can't stand let alone co-ordinate cleaning I will leave it overnight. Thus far I can not see any determental effects.

So it's really more about your personal hygiene gents.

not true, I left water in my base with the stem on and it grew mold in the water! little gooey white pustuals reallllly gross. then I sold that hookah to some kid because i refused to smoke out of it ever again. Now I empty it after each session.

Last year, when my g/f and I both lived in the dorms and didn't have access to a private bathroom (public dorm bathrooms SUCK btw), we'd leave water in the vase for weeks without cleaning it.

Now that we have an apartment, I clean the vase, stem and bowl after each smoke. Once a day while I'm not smoking, I clean the entire thing (hose included) and let it dry under the furnace vent.

So to answer your question, you won't cause any immediate damage leaving the stem in the water for a few hours But your sessions will be much more enjoyable if you clean often.

Yes. Blow hard. I also run hot water through the hose port and purge valve. Blow through those as well
to expel most of the water.

I also store all the vases and stems in the cupboard where my oil fired boiler is, so it's very dry and warm in there. Good to the drying process.
