shoresidejake
just curious how everyone lights their quicklights... i usually use 3 kings 33mm and light them with one of these...like $6 at wal-mart... great because it's windproof... EvansLight
i always use a little blue flame lighter, aka small butane torch. It works fast and well, and i have about a dozen of em

Dom
i used a lighter at first, but i got really irritated that it wouldn't light by itself unless i held the lighter to it for an inordinate amount of time. it would, but then, it would just go out, and i'd have to hold the lighter to it again. when i use quicklight, i use 3-Kings. that's how they are. now, begian quicklights, (even though they give headahces) they light up a lot easier than 3 Kings do, but it's still kind of a pain. now, i just put my 3-kings on the stove, just like i do for my naturals, and turn on the stove fan to suck up the gun powder smoke and stuff. it's a lot easier and i don't burn my thumb from the lighter getting too hot from trying to light a coal. Canon
im too impatient for a standard lighter, so i use my butane torch. much faster.

gaia.plateau
I use a 3000 degree microtorch that I got on eBay for $15... perfect for getting QLs to "max heat" in moments.

Eifah
I have one of those bendy lighters, but it's not windproof and I always smoke outside. It ends up being really tough to light QLs like that. I've recently switched to natural coals, but those have problems of their own too.
GiantSquid
Set 2 on top of eachother in one of these and then just light them with a regular trigger style grill lighter, then fan them with a coleman portable fan to get them going faster. mathuv
well i just put my zippo down on the ash tray and hold the QL over it till at least the outer rim of the bottom is red hot, then i put it down, prepare everything else and by then it would have become red hot all over
gaia.plateau
Doesn't all that complication and equipment sort of undermine the convenience of a quicklite? Just use naturals!QUOTE (GiantSquid @ Feb 10 2008, 01:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Set 2 on top of eachother in one of these and then just light them with a regular trigger style grill lighter, then fan them with a coleman portable fan to get them going faster. GiantSquid
Not really. It's actually much faster than waiting and the only reason I use the vegetable steamer is to have a place to set the coals when I light them, since I normally smoke in the car. SupremeOstrich
Wow, great recommendation on the flexible lighter. Picked one up tonight, barely had to blow on the coal at all. Plus it's like a blow torch, and that's just awesome =D
