HookahDude831
funny thing is, ordinary citizens cannot talk on the phone and drive. A law enforcement officer is on his nextel, the radio, The computer, His personal phone, and usually has some sort of beverage while driving. now who is in the wrong? If they are so worried, shouldnt cops have handsfree radios? And isnt texting (even though I dont do it because I like to keep my eyes on the road at all times) alot like reading from their computer screens as an incident occurs? Either way, I went to court and they were charging me with $415... after going through the run-around they knocked off most of it and I walked out of the court room $60 poorer (more then the amount for a bluetooth). Guys I'll have to wait till next paycheck.
Voski
Fight it and say you were on speaker phone. But I think texting is wrong my cousin actually recently rear ended someone because he was texting.Edit: I failed to read that you did fight it already =D
Brownman18
Working n the cell phone industry at a providor's store as a manager has proven to me 100% that you are an idiot if you are talking on your cell phone/blackberry/smartphone etc while driving.I'm sorry but you are driving.Lets play a hypothetical gameI am on my cell phone driving, i clip and cripple some poor guy who was walking.no matter what i say somebody on the receiving end will say "you ruined my insert(brother/sister/mom/dad/etc) life by killing him"at which point one should ask themselves, honestly what could you say as your defence? You just ruined your life and somebody elses for a phone call.end of simulation. How do you cripple guy that was walking? Is he crossing the street illegally? At that point it doesn't matter if your on the phone or not he shouldn't be there. I think your underestimating what you as a human being can do, driving is not difficult. Taxi drivers, cops, and limo drivers all use radios when driving which from my first hand experience is more distracting then cell phones.
Brownman18
we are advised to tell all peoples to not utilize their phone when driving if asked/Either way what would you do if you fucked up given that your more likely to then legally intoxicated individuals. Virgil
Talking on a phone or even with people in the car whilst driving is not a good idea. <---- PeriodThe only reason why you have this "hands free device" business is because they could'nt get the bill passed to completely ban phone use while driving. Even still if it was illegal, how would a cop notice.

mathuv
QUOTE (Chris@BlueElephant @ Feb 12 2008, 09:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Right, but my point is NOT that cell phones do or do not impair someones driving ability. My point is that to say hands-free devices somehow are less distracting then speaker phone or talking on a phone regularly is absurd. Therefore, they are targeting people strictly so they have to buy more shit they dont need. And, there are tons of other distractions that they dont target that I feel are even worse (eating food, changing ipod music, texting, putting on makeup, etc). Therefore it is bogus to go after only ONE of these. And besides, just as I know when I can and cannot eat food while driving based on driving conditions, I am responsible enough to know when I can talk on the phone.how can someone put on makeup WHILST moving? have you ever seen this? :s anyways i cant drive but heres my view: if you're responsible enough to have a car, you should be responsible enough to know when its you cant drive (i.e on the phone, intoxicated, etc). at least one should have the decency to pull over. imagine you were to get hit by someonet talking on their phone..how would you feel? people should turn off their phones whilst driving, obviously its not practical i mean if i was driving i wouldnt stay switching off my phone for the trip.. texting imo is even worse cos you'd have to be looking at the screen. if you're at a crossing/traffic lights im sorry but the law still applies, i dont think old bill should give anyone a break on this. police can speak on their radios apparantley because theyre meant to be "better drivers" Edited March 18, 2008 by mathuv
Voski
exactly they are meant to but actually aren't. Its a way for the goverment to make more money by ticketing people for something they allow officers to do.
St. Goodypants
^^^uhhh... A way for the government to make money?I'm sorry but that's a stupid comment. How much would it cost to enforce the said law?
Voski
You are saying that paying the fine on a ticket doesn't make the government money? So where did my $200, $189, $168, and I think another $200 (it hasn't arrived yet) go?More laws mean more opportunities for people to break them which means more fines. It doesn't cost any more money to enforce it since police are already on patrol (sitting in speed traps), its just another reason for them to pull you over. I fail to see how this is stupid. Voski
Exactly! When was the last time the roads had the traffic and engineering survey done? There are roads with 35mph caution signs that I can do going 90mph in my car no problem. Speeds aren't updated so when you drive around in your modern vehicle and don't even notice your doing 50 mph because your on a straight 6 lane road you still get a ticket because the limit is 35, but you had no intentions to speed. Its all about your Benjamins in Uncle Sam's pocket. St. Goodypants
How much does a fight over a ticket cost in the courtroom?(Just so you know voski, most people can ignore half of what I say because I'm just a alcohol-crazed bastard who likes to burn people for MAKING STUPID COMMENTS.) Voski
directly it costs $0. If you want to factor in how much you spend on gas and such then it depends, It still comes out to a small amount which is no wear near what you have to pay. And EVEN to fight the ticket you still need to pay the fine and if you win you get it back, at least thats how it is in California. I was not aware that you are a alcohol-crazed bastard who likes to burn people for making stupid comments. But I still do not see how my comment is stupid. I agree that it is awkwardly worded ts like a direct response to the reply above it as if we were speaking.

Cybersist
I actually whole heartedly agree with cell phone/driving laws because Ive seen to many accident occur in that situation. I have already been hit by people texting and not looking at the road, and it really annoys me. Granted, I do think texting/calling at a red light is a safe situation. Steemax
Here in CA, its IF a cop were to stop you for something besides the cellphone but as they walk to your window and see you with a cell phone THEN they can write you up for the phone, or else they cant stop you ONLY for talking on the phone, thats how 2 cops that I have talked with have said it.
