Safe Glycerin?

Recommended Posts

Im planning on buying glycerin from Amazon in an attempt to try and make my own shisha, the only problem is that im not sure what kinds would be safe to smoke. There are some that claim to be 100% vegetable glycerin, but are listed under cosmetics. Would they alter it at all that would make it unsafe? Edited by Tom16689

I did research and they are pretty much the same thing... Glycerin is an oily substance that is good for burns or chapped lips... it is also extremely sweet and is used as an alternative sweetener... its just basically how it is bottled. Of course a company can't sell a product for both cooking and health so they just pick one.

IMO I don't think it matters as long as it it veggie glycerin.

I can't speak for the differences between them, but if I were you I'd stick to the ones that are meant for baking. Don't risk putting some vaporized nailpolish in your lungs wink.gif

Or at least contact the companies that make it and verify it's safe

Looks like glycerin is glycerin.

Here's a bit yanked off Wikipedia:

Pharmaceutical and personal care applications
Glycerol is used in medical and pharmaceutical and personal care preparations, mainly as a means of improving smoothness, providing lubrication and as a humectant. It is found in cough syrups, elixirs and expectorants, toothpaste, mouthwashes, skin care products, shaving cream, hair care products, and soaps.

As a 10% solution, glycerol prevents tannins from precipitating in ethanol extracts of plants (tinctures). It is also used as a substitute for ethanol as a solvent in preparing herbal extractions. It is less extractive and is approximately 30% less able to be absorbed by the body. Fluid extract manufacturers often extract herbs in hot water before adding glycerin to make glycerites.[2][3][4]

Thanks cloudmaker... thats where I was going... glycerin is a fairly safe additive. Glycerin just sounds like a scary word... people are afraid of the unknown it's inevitable.

It's the same glycerin that you use to put in cake and up your ass. Same chemical makeup and comes from the same plants.

Stay away from the other forms... those are dangerous.
