Why are stems in shisha such a big deal around here? how does it change the flavor? and do I need to pick the really/thin smaller ones out?

ive never grapsed the concept, if a stem is huge i usually take it out (rather have some shisha there) if its small i leave it.

Yea thats what I do to biggrin.gif I mean most the stems are covered in juicy goodness so might as well smoke it.

For some reason, I have found that, yeah the larger stems, do seem to make the smoke a lot harsher, if you have several in your bowl. Nakhla seems personally to me to be the one shisha brand with a lot of larger stems, I haven't really ran into it with any other brand.

Stems can add weight to the overall amount of tobacco without adding as much value as the leaf portion itself. This means that you aren't getting the full 250g, 500g, or whatever amount, of the actual leaf, for your money.

Stems also pose a problem when packaging the tobacco because if the tobacco is being bagged, a stem (the thick ones) can pop the bag during transit.

I'm just guessing here, but stems arent gonna have nearly as much of the nicotine goodness that leaves have. If its big I pull it out, if its tiny I leave it much like everyone else...

Who has the time to pick through an entire bowl for tiny little stems which dont screw the smoke up?

Stems make your bowl burn faster. That's really the only issue, apart from taking up space that could be occupied by baccy.

This is true, the dry stems heat up and burn faster where as the leaves soak in the moister and is why they burn longer. They also hold a better flavor, stems hold the flavor of what they are...woody cartilidge. If you ever get a woody/planty taste it's coming from too many stems.
