HookahDuck
I placed my order with Taqseem, and it should be here in a few days. I bought the Two hose version, with the black finish. I'll be sure to take some action shots when it gets here! Hehe I have about 10 of my friends coming over to take its virginity. They have never seen anything like it Anyway, since this is a popular hookah, I was wondering what some of your guys' solutions were. 1: Case. I dont plan on taking my stargate with me often(I have my little Eqyptian for that), but I might in the future. What do you guys use? Is there a case that fits it particularly well? I was thinking about using that packing foam stuff to make my own. You know... the kind thats wrapped in a black plastic bag, and when it inflates, it conforms to what ever is inside the box?I thought I could use a few on top and bottom to make it perfect. Although, im not sure what type of box/case I should start with. 2: Auto-seal. How neccesary is it on a 2 hose? I think I could get a long without it just fine. I know there is another thread that talks about one that is made as an adaptor. Would anyone recommend these? 3:Hoses. It seems like I remember reading that the hoses that come with the stargate are very nice, and are washable. Correct? This is important to me, as I like to dabble a little water in the hose with a measuring cup(just a tiny ammount), which acts a filter to catch little particles of ash. Should I buy a couple extra hoses anyway? Thanks guys!
ioannisds
Hey HookahDuck. Here are some answers (and some of my opinions) regarding your questions: 1. Because the Stargate breaks down so nicely, you could probably get away with just a backpack or something to take it with you. Once it is disassembled, you don't have any pieces that are more than a few inches long, the largest being the base. A lot of people get cases for their Egyptian/Syrian/etc hookahs because the stems on these are quite big, and you need something larger to carry/protect it. Seriously, when you see your Stargate for the first time, you will see what I mean. 2. To me, auto-seal is no big thing, especially for a two hose job. I can see it helping on a big, multi-hose deal (like maybe 3 or more), but you will be just fine. Basically, without auto-seal, you need to have the other person smoking with you cap the end of their hose with their thumb when you take a draw. I have a 2 hose Egyptian, and I always just tell friends to remember to plug their end when they are not smoking. If you've got a buttload of hoses though, the auto-seal would be convenient, as it is harder to get that many people on the same page and plugging their hoses when someone else is trying to smoke. 3. The hoses that come with the Stargate are very nice. Almost like Mya hoses, with maybe a little bit bigger hose diameter. I WOULD NOT PUT ANY WATER AT ALL IN THE HOSE BEFORE YOU SMOKE. If your hookah is set up properly, you should not get any ash or particles at all with a dry hose. If you moisten the inside of the hose, it will just be more prone to collecting smoke particles/goo, and you will actually have to clean it a lot more often. I clean my hoses MAYBE once every couple of months with a little lemon juice. Most of the time they don't even need it, but I do it anyways. Just blow your hoses out a few times after a smoke, and you will be fine. I really, really, really would not do the water thing. Yashman19 might have some other ideas too, as he has owned a Stargate for quite a bit longer than I have. Maybe he'll drop you a line. Hope this helps, and enjoy your new Stargate! yashman19
I would agree with ioannisds about putting water in the hose. Just because it's a washable hose doesn't mean its a good idea to voluntarily put water in it. The only thing a washable hose means is that you wont have to deal with rusting metal springs from the inside, thus allowing you to wash any gunk out with water, but after washing you should hang it out to dry for a solid couple of hours and let the inside completly get dry before smoking again. If you wash out your hose and go right back into smoking, you're going to have to wash it more frequently because dust particles and gunk is going to get stuck on the inside of the wet hose. I've always been curious about the water level everyone else uses for their Stargate. The first time I used mine, I filled the water to the line where you can see into the base, but realized that this was a bit too full and it caused water to splash up into the hose. I would sometimes even pull water all the way to my mouth. So then I tried filling the water to a point where it just BARELY came over the bottom of the stem, but my sessions were tasting a bit more harsh with less smoke for some reason. I know fill the water lvl about a half inch below the line where you can see into the base, and it seems to work fine now. I get a nice plume of smoke with good flavor and no harshness. So how about you guys? What works best for the water line for you on your Stargates?

I have only gotten water in the hose a couple of times though, and the smoke has otherwise been good. Maybe I will try a little bit lower and see what happens. HookahDuck
Im glad that the hoses that it comes with are freely flowing... I hate hoses that have a tight draw. It makes sense that if you use water in the hose, you have to clean it more often. I have to clean the hose out with water absolutly every time I smoke, or I get a ton of ash. I'll most likely just throw that hose away and buy a mya for my Egyptian. One should be fine.. as I usually smoke only once every weekend or two. (You know, come to think of it... I was never told the current hose I have for my Egyptian is washable. Could this actually be really unhealthy to smoke with?) I am kind of dissapointed to find out the Stargate is acrylic. I assumed it to all be glass. Maybe this is why the price is so low? It just seems like an acrylic hookah would look "cheap"... But we'll see when it gets here. Also, I would think plastic would not be as much of a thermal barrier as glass(to keep the water in the base cold with ice). I have always heard the smaller you make the chamber(Ie, the more water you use above the stem), the more smoke you'll get, but it will get harsh faster. I've seen similar results with my egyptian. And to the above poster: I contacted Tawseem with a PM on the forum. He responded the next day

Some of the best hookahs out there (i.e. Mya) are acrylic. The Stargate looks totally sweet. Plus, just the clear part of the base is acrylic. You will dig it, I swear . yashman19
You may be right that because of the Stargates acrylic base instead of glass base will not retain temps as well as glass, but then our acrylics will withstand more of a beating than glass. yashman19
[quote name='HookahDuck']Is only the base acyrillic? The only plexiglass is the clear part of the chamber
