jamesh2
ok guys, I know some of you are into tradition, but I have been brainstorming with the woman and we have decided that we want a table piece that fits into a living room looking just as good as any end table for the house. We're designing it, and I want to know if anyone has screwed with any designs like this, where the bowl is on the bottom, I know how I can rig it up.http://www.mbwfurniture.com/images/SY2TBLEHBLY01_lg.jpghttp://www.mbwfurniture.com/images/SY2TBLEHBLY02DK_lg.jpgif not were going to cut a hole through the top, and try to have the tray and bowl stick out just barely, we went to home depot and priced parts. not much for what we want, I think we can do it under 75, that’s with a nice lacquer finishany input would be great, this is the only place I know of that anyone will be incline to helpJams
EternalSoil
there is someone on here that made a few, i dont remember who.they were not that elaborate but they were still really neat.they used more of a box style kind that would normally have doors on the sides.then they cut a small hole in the top where the bowl/tray go and the rest was underneath. Then there was piping on the insides that would come out on the sides with valves to open/close where you put the hose in. jamesh2
yeah but i really wouldnt mind going a little elaborate. the built in chess/checkers table is awsome. i could make a really cool personal project out of this :-)
EternalSoil
haha! yeah making somethign liek that will require alot of time and measuring and money if you make the inlays like that.getting different woods to make the design (unless you paint it) will be expensive. You might think about how you could disassemble it for cleaning, but still make it pretty when its put together.i might take a few mins in paint to draw something up... jamesh2
good point on the cleaning. i was thinking about using surgical tube through the inside of the wood. maybe i shoud jus do the hole idea but make it look good. hmmm
EternalSoil
Ok, here is my drawing, sorry its weird.the thing on the left is a side cut of a leg. that is how you would have to make it. with 2 pieces routed to make a hole for the piping or you could use 4 smaller pieces and make it square. The light blue lines go from the bowl into the water, then you will have to design a chamber to make the smoke go from the glase vase to the ports on the side.remember you will have to use some type of metal piping (brass fittings most likely) for where the bowl goes and the chamber and downstem.i would make the parts removable where i put the red lines. you can pace little dowlels into drilled holes to keep stuff from moving when its set up.maybe i will try to do something like this this summer... shoresidejake
not near as cool as displaying your 32" hafa km on the floor... just my honest opinion Edited February 24, 2008 by shoresidejake
EternalSoil
if you could make one really elaborate and customize it to fit your personality then it will be as cool as you want it to be.Just a matter of opinion...
mushrat
I had one of the tables pictured in the first think. The main problem was making the vase seal properly to the underside of the table. The cheap pot metal collar woulsn't seal even using teflon tape, papertowel, nothing. ....Also it used clear plasitc tubing on the inside that was too long and kept kinking as places, I had to shorten the hoses and put in metal elbows where they bent to keep the flow open. Almost made it work if I could have sealed the vase,
