r1v3th3ad
So, my first session with these new Al Kemma wood coals went great, but then I had a killer headache for a good 8hrs. The session after that I was fine, then last night's I got another 8 hrs headache. I can't figure out if its the coals or if its because of my foil phunnel. Then again, my first session I didn't use a foil phunnel...I had a full stomach and all.Thoughts?also, if anyone has a good technique to get rid of the headache, I'd love it...I took about 4 Aleves, used a bunch of peppermint oil, and opened the window for cold air, plus lots of water and couldn't shake it awake. Just woke up a little bit ago with it still partially lingering...
waterboi
Did you have a full stomach and drink plenty of water or juice or tea for the latter two sessions?
leadpipecinch21
yeah, that's the one thing you really need to do is eat and drink while smoking. that much nicotine on an empty/non-hydrated system SUCKS, and usually makes you feel like shit.if you were already full and well hydrated for each session, but still got the headaches it might be from the coals...some people can't use certain coals for whatever reason because it messes with them(3k's kill me). Canon
its the tobacco.. i find tangiers is the only tobacco that doesnt give me a headache. i believe i get headaches from other tobacco because of the food coloring that they put in there. its the only think i can link to the types of tobacco that give me headache (Tangiers, Zaghloul, and fusion so far havnt given me a headache) the flavors with alot of coloring in them do. r1v3th3ad
The first session was the worst headache, the latter weren't so bad and had been fully hydrated as well as being full. I think its these coals. I always have used quicklights and never got a headache, but these wood coals are a first for naturals for me. I've smoked all these tobaccos before with quicklights and no headache. I just don't understand why its doin this to me. The session I did not get a headache from, I had a really heavy buzz, whereas with quicklights in the same session, I would have a weak buzz...must be the difference in carcinogens and my body not being used to them.Any advice for killing the headaches? I'm broke, so these are all the coals I have to smoke with, and I don't feel like going a month without smoking, that is, until the next time I have money to stock up. Eating and drinking + painkillers + ventilation + peppermint oil is not cutting it...

Majid
Sorry to hear that. I'm not sure if it's just the tobacco though, i never get light in the head when i fix my own hookah but one particular place i used to go to got my head in the clouds every time, i stopped going there alltogether. Take care of yourself though, stop smoking for a little while when you get those headaches, eat/drink something while you smoke.

I got slight CO poisoning the first time i smoked with naturals (light headed, dizzy, nausea, dehydration, etc).. I normally don't have any problems with any tobacco, thats why I'm thinking its the coals, but it might be the foil phunnel I'm making too? I'm gonna try it with quicklights next time I have them, as a test.QUOTE (mathuv @ Feb 25 2008, 03:32 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>QUOTE (Switch @ Feb 25 2008, 05:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>its a tumorthats not funny you idiot...are you making sure the coals are red hot before putting them on? try smoking in a well ventilated room, could be the coals are giving off more CO than regular ones. I got slight CO poisoning the first time i smoked with naturals (light headed, dizzy, nausea, dehydration, etc)..I generally leave the coals on the stove for roughly ten minutes, frequently checking them and turning them...until there is no black left, then I give them another minute or two. But the ventilation, that could be it, with the naturals I mean. I always smoke in my room and never have the window open(being winter in pa). Never had that prob with quicklights. And the symptoms you described are the same for me...except that I get a killer headache that doesn't go away until a minimum of 7hrs sleep is at hand...Thanks for the input
BDA88
Could be lack of oxygen. Are you a fast smoker? It's good to wait a little in between each smoke. I've seen people pass straight out in the hookah bar I work at because they smoke too hard, too fast. Drink lots of water while smoking. that helps me

On the other hand, Mr. Switch could have put some input on the subject.Smoke on a full stomach, have plenty of drinks handy, ration the smoke inhalation, move around, keep active. I only get headaches when I take in too much nicotine (bowl after bowl after bowl). Takes about 5 to really get one.-QM Edited February 25, 2008 by QuiltedMaple

Sonthert
Headaches occur for a lot of reasons, hookah smoking-wise that is. I usually use only Japanese coals, so I don't see the CO problem occurring, but if its getting damper...usually in the winter time, and the shit's smoking great, I'll get a headache in the morning. I think its caused by dried out sinus cavities in the head. Maybe thats it. Lots and lots of smoke going through your head dries them out and causes headaches...my theory goes. Like these?http://mnhookahs.com/product_info.php?cPat...;products_id=44Have you tried the coconaras? I like those a lot. I have been wanting to get some Japanese coals too to try. Could be the dryness as you have said. It does make sense. I get more migraines in the winter.
mathuv
I only get headaches when i smoke for 2 or 3 hours . funnily enough, its only from a certain hookah... anyone can however get dizzy, nauseaus etc from taking too many puffs. my advice now would be to relax and take it easy, no need to smoke the bowl like there's no tomorrow..i'd rather put on another coal then spend the whole bowl in 1 session and end up with a migraine
Dom
i found that the only thing that reduced my Hookah-head was taking a hot, steamy shower. i guess breathing in that steam helped me out. it didn't go away, though. it just reduced in intensity. try head-on. apply directly to the head. i bought some of that and have not had a hookah-headache to try it out on yet, though. hope this helps, r1v.
