Tong Trick

Recommended Posts

OK........
Have you ever had to fight a bit with your tongs because they werent "springy" enough? Have to kind of bend them out some more to get them back they way they were?
Funk dat.
Get your propane torch out ....... Take your tongs and get that part where the limbs meet glowin ass hot.... and on up the limbs about an inch.
Then..... quickly put the hot part under running water at the sink or dunk them in a pre-filled cup. This causes the metal to temper.
Repeat the heating and cooling process about 4 or 5 times..... that should correct the problem for the life of the tongs.

hmmm.....what i do is just tie string around it to keep it closed. then the next time i use it its good as new. repeat this like every 2 weeks or so (when it looses its springnise)
but i'll definitly try out your idea....maybe its longer lasting

This is the method myself and a friend of mine have been using for over
a year. We never considered the heating method, doesn't that make the
metal brittle after a certain point?
To a degree it would... but for the task they are used for..... it doesnt come into play.
If you tried to bend the limbs out the other way after doing that (who's gonna do that?) they wouild probably snap.
I'll give it a try. It's not like we can't buy spares, anyway.
