I havnt tried every brand out there, but I've had plenty of AF, Nahkla, Al Havana, Romman, and Tangiers

Out of those I would pick AF overall.

A GOOD pack of Romman is very very good, but you really can't count on that. They are amazingly inconsistant. The first time I tried Romman I was blown away, hours of thick smoke and good flavor. Unfortunately that was only the first pack. The other two packs that came with the order were very average... slightly thicker smoke that the cheap brands, but poor flavor.

AF on the other hand has been consistently very good in my experience. Southsmoke.com has it on sale right now... $1.99 for 50g, $9.99 for 250g, $10.99 for Golden 250g... I just bought the AF golden black grape. I havnt smoked it yet, but I have never smelled shisha like it before... heaven.


EDIT - it also should be noted that hookah-shisha.com seems to have exclsive distribution rights to Romman shisha... I am very suspicious that they have been hyping it up a lot... particularly in their own review section Edited February 28, 2008 by trizkit

the three flavors of romman I had were probably the worst I have ever had smoked good if you can resist barfing after tasting the flavor...yes I am sorry I did over exaggerate a little bit, but I still hate it

Well I'll go out on a limb and put my balls on the table.

Nahkla.

It's taditional - never changed much, long sessions and good smoke are easily achived.

However if this is for a lounge i would go with a three-tier shisha menu

'Traditional' - Nahkla
'Regular' - Layalina/Al Fakihir/Al Waha/Tangiers/
'Premium' - Starbuzz/Fusion

A few of my favorites:
Starbuzz Cherry, Starbuzz White Peach, Starbuzz X on the Beach, Tonic Cosmopolitan, Sultan Apricot, Al Amir Mint (very, very strong), HookahHookah Butterscotch, Pharoahs Double Apple
I think that if money is no object, then I would definately go for Starbuzz or Tonic, but my favorite cheaper tobbaco is Sultan. HookahHookah stuff is awesome tasting but generally does not last as long as the other flavors IME. I have not tried Tangiers, AF, Romann, or Fusion though, although they are supposed to be awesome as well. I can personally recommend you stay away from most Al Amir stuff (the mint is good, but I got a 10 pack of it and I did not like most of it) and Nakhala stuff. I also had some great Fumari stuff on my friend's hookah, but I think it is not quite as good as Starbuzz. Pharoahs stuff is good as well, but the smoke just is not as thick as it could be. Its flavor is great though.
