How To Light Coals?

What's the best way to light coals? We've been using a gas stove top for the house and just switched to a gas grill... is there an easier way to light coals for the home smoker? What about lighting coals for a hookah lounge/bar?

I use the stove on my grill, I think mush uses coil burners at his lounge they are under 20 bucks. Also blow torches work too. Edited February 26, 2008 by voski

I have an extra tray(catches the ashes) that i put on top of my burner on my oven then place my coals on that. Turn it to high and let it burn 5 minutes, turn it give it another 5. Then i will use my tongs to tap the coal getting all the ash off and put it on my bowl. Works great.

I usually use a flexable butane torch lighter or a stove with electric coilks on it.

We usually light are charcoals (quicklight) with Butane Lighter. Fast and Easy and better than the regualr lighters with orange flame.

The walgreens coil stove works better than the wal mart hot plate, FYI.

i use a lighter, zippo to be precise.. have had too many ordinary lighters blow up on me whilst trying to light a QL

Electric Coil burner. From 10-15 dollars. works the great if you don't want to mess around with a torch. burner takes about 5 minutes for jap coals. clean burn the whole way.
