thecoalition
Have you ever felt like everyone in the class you are taking are completely and possibly mentally retarded? I am taking a cyberforensics class and every week we need to post on a forum a 500 word analysis of the previous readings. Not difficult at all actually.Instead of analysis all i seem to be reading is kids just giving summaries of what they read. Problem is that we also have to respond critically to the other postings. So far I have gotten told "Don't be such an ass." and "Just because we dont know about computers doesn't mean you have to point it out"CYBER FORENSICS! WTF DO YOU THINK THE CLASS IS ABOUT!?How am I to respond critically to a kid or adult that says the author said.....495 words later....i think he is right! So i just tear them apart on the possible arguments that could be used against them. The teacher loves it and says GG glad someone was paying attention to the forum rules and guidelines.Fuckin' haters I say
jfaltous
I had a class where we had to do something very similar to this... give comment on assigned philosophical readings and such in an online forum once a week, and support/argue other people's comments... I'd always try and post something at least a little insightful and then I'd come back and see like 40 people had responded with "yeah i agree" or "i disagree, you're wrong" and pretty much nothing of substance to support it I always just found it funny, and if anything it made me look good to the prof and them look useless, so who really cares in the end. Towards the end of the semester I'd just stop posting independently and instead I'd find someone else's post and cut it apart on details or technicalities that nobody really cares about, just to piss them off

zeppyrkr
its not that there dumb or stupid, some may be but i know i did this more one of my classes it was stupid and i never read the book? (got an a) ; but most of our forums were full of agreeing and pointing out the obvious some people just dont like to try hard like me, which is bad, which reminds me i have to do some homework i hate school and quite frankly i think that no one should go to college when you 18; you need a few years to grow up, mature, and learn valuable life lessons. some may disagree but thats what i think ... staygone
People are too scared to state an opinion becuase they don't really have a grasp on the topic at hand. I'm all game for having fun, but as long as I have my priorities and keep a happy medium, Then I'm satisfied.-QM
Shakes
You wanna talk about tards that don't belong anywhere remotely near a college campus? Here's a list of what I affectionatley refer to as "Troy-Isms" from some of the backwoods ditch creatures that inhabit Troy University. I originally compiled this list for facebook, but I feel you guys should see it too. Keep in mind that these are transcribed verbatim as spoken by the poor ill-informed souls who will, to save what small shred of dignity they may still possess, remain nameless. "God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and...uh, John or whatever." -A guy in my Sociology class "I broke up with my girlfriend back home because I caught her cheating on me with her brother." -This douchebag I once met "The Koran, what is that? Is it from Korea?" -A lady who works at the campus book store "I usually just let my daddy do all of my assignments for me." -A girl in my Sociology class who will be graduating this semester "I generally agree with everything the president says or does, regardless of whether or not I think it's right." -A poor, misguided fool "I was almost right, don't I get points for that?" -A girl in my physical science class "Hell no, there ain't nothin' wrong with gettin' married in high school. My mom got married when she was 12." -One of my girlfriend's co-workers "This is the quad, you can't play frisbee here!" -A Troy Campus cop "Global warming is a myth." -This douchebag that was in my house for some reason "Drilling in Alaska will get us out of Iraq." -The same aforementioned douchebag "You don't really wanna file a report do ya? I mean look, those dents add character." -The Troy city cop who arrived on the scene when I got rear-ended
St. Goodypants
Yea, shakes that's pretty bad.I've lived in a college town my whole life, so I know what you mean. And I completely agree with whatever point you are trying to make. Anyway, it's kind of amazing how many "intelligent" college students use annoying cliches (often in the wrong context) to try and make a point. If they can't say something with their own words they probably shouldn't be talking at all. My opinion is that the male college students who do this should be strung up by their balls and hung from the belltower until the said testicles come off so that they cannot ever reproduce. The women who spout this kind of gibberish should be socially limited to those poor pathetic males who lose their reproductive organs to this operation.Does that seem reasonable to anyone else? alice
Ugh ... I go to a liberal arts college in the middle of a forest that has no grades, so we get a good mix of people I want to punch in the face. I think the people that irritate me most aren't necessarily the stupid ones, but the ones that won't shut up and leave it alone. There are a lot of time-wasting circular debates repeated in each class discussion. For example, last year I was taking a class that involved consciousness and the human mind, and many potentially good discussions were ruined by someone going "But really, what is consciousness?" or "But is it right to define someone else's experience when we cannot truly know what they are experiencing firsthand?" and launching the same philosophical argument involving the same three people saying the same things. I wouldn't be surprised if in between classes they used a thesaurus to look up bigger, more complicated words to express the same damn point so that the stupid kids never caught on. It was an interesting discussion the first time, but quickly became tiring.

I haven't run into many of them myself, but I dislike the concept of graded forum participation. I don't really like making use of forums like that unless I actually need assistance, so being forced to log in once or twice a week to post complete B.S. for a grade is usually more annoying than it is productive.
