guitar_wizard_uk
Hi i'm new to shisha (well not really but just got my own) and ive come across a problem. Mid-burning of the first coal, the smoke just dies out, i'll put another coal on and quarter-way through this one it dies again. Could this be crap coals? I looked at the content after smoking yesterday and the shisha was hardly touched and still moist at the bottom, do u think im packing it too much or putting too much in? thanks! mushrat
Greetings and welcome to the forum! That out of the way, what kind of crappy coals are you using? Are you de-ashing your coals? Moving them around? It does sound like you are having heat problems as long as the flavour and smoke come back evey time you add a new coal. SMOKE~N~BUBBLZ
Also remember, teh goal is not to just get a huge amount of smoke, its no good if its smoking well but you are burning it, once you burn teh top part of teh bowl, it kind of restricts the heat traveling through the bowl. Do you have a really crusty sort of caramalised layer on top of teh bowl when you finish?
guitar_wizard_uk
Yes it just seems to turn to charcoal, im using good coals, three kings brand. Im using Nakhla tobacco. When i put the foil over the bowl, and put a coal on, the foil seems to sag and go inside the clay bowl a bit, could this be a problem? I've tried using very little shisha and packing it really loosely. I've also tried looking for air-leaks but the hookah is fine.
mushrat
ahhh..ok..now for the $64,000 question. What FLAVOUR or Nakhla are you smoking?
guitar_wizard_uk
I am using Apple flavour. Could it be the shisha just isn;t moist enough? i mean it feels moist but surely it wouldnt burn to a crisp if it was moist enough.
mushrat
hmm... if it works an tastes fine for a while, then dies out, then when you add more heat it tastes and works fine again it has to be a heat issue. Are you tapping the layer of as off your coals at any time? Nakhla requires quite a bit of heat and the ash layer on the coals will reduce the heat. you may have to start with more than one 3 king at a time and keep them ashed now and then. I know a lot of people here start with 1 1/2 coals and have to mess with them fairly regularly. You might also consider a windcover or a foil cover ( i posted how to do one a while back) to help keep the heat it... I'll see if I can find that post... mushrat
ah, found the post, the pictures are gone...I'll post them again here.. This will trap the heat very wel, creating an oven effect for your smoking pleasure. They do this at the local hookah Cafe here in Raleigh and I've seen it in pictures of places all over. Will also keep stray coals/sparks off your carpet.
