Hi, Need A Bit Of Help

Recommended Posts

Hi, just bought a new Shisha today, looks great so thought i would try it. Filled the boal with Liqourish flavor(my fave), and added two red hot coals. Couple of mins later it started up. I kept going for a while but i couldnt taste anything, there wasent much smoke either.
Not sure if its because its a new shisha and i have to keep smoking for a few days to actualy start tasting the flavor and getting more smoke. But all i can taste now is the pipe lol.
Kinda pissed me off cos the place where i go to smoke shisha, flavoring is great and smoke is great so was expecting that from my shisha. Greatly dissapointed lol.
If anyone can help, any tips, or if anyone mih no whats wrong please get back to me.Thx
/Intrikit

A few things:-How deep is the bowl?-How deeply are you packing the bowl?-Foil or screen?-If foil, how many and how big are the holes?-Check for leaks -- there are some posts on how to find out how to isolate the leak-how much water do you have in the base? Needs to cover about 1-1.5"

I have a theory about when folks come in and have this same problem....
I really think its tongue bite..... what that is a mild chemical burn caused from smoking.
Even when you are starting up the hookah... something is coming thru in the way of vapor... even if its tasteless and not visible...and this gives your tongue a painless burn.... it basically zaps your buds.
This is very common with pipe smoking.
My suggestion is to wait a few days.. then....... when you fire up the hookah...... let that thing sit a while till the bowl heats up without puffin on it.
If I dont see smoke come out after 4-5 quick puffs..... then Im not up to temp yet........ let it sit some more.

I doubt that he can't get much taste because of tounge bite. This seems
like a logical idea, but he also claims that he isn't getting much
smoke either. This leads me to believe that he isn't packing the quite
right or managing his heat properly.

Fill the bowl but leave a little room between the top of the ma'assel and the foil to prevent burning.

Don't pack it in too tight, or this might lead to an improper burn or make the draw too hard.

Hole patterns will vary, this you will have to experiment with to find
what works best for you (I use a pushpin and put roughly 30-40 holes
evenly spaced out over the foil).

Coals will vary as well. If you use round quick light discs, people
like to use 1, but I like using 2 and just keeping them spread apart
from each other and rotate them slowly around as the session
progresses. If you are using natural coals (typically finger coals),
the same pretty much applies. Keep them spread out from each other so
you don't get too much heat concentrated on one spot, and you should
keep the burning to a minimum.

The water level should be roughly 1" above the bottom of the stem.

Other than these basic tips, its all an experiment. You will get the
hang of it in time. My first session, I packed the bowl way too tight
and had no idea what I was doing with the coals. You'll get it soon
enough!

Good luck ;)
