gaia.plateau
I've been a fan of this series since it was first on the air... and I've watched every episode at least 4 or 5 times... but I haven't watched them since I've been a hookah afficianado, and I just moments ago noticed a hookah in Inara's room, during Episode 4 (Shindig) at 05:51. I'm sure it's always on the set and very likely this particular pipe and perhaps others appear in other episodes or even the film Serenity as well. Post if you know of any! For fans of the show, this sighting occurs during one of the show's more memorable moments between Mal and Inara... just after Inara (a high class hooker) has engaged Atherton Wing "for several days" on Persephone, to which Mal alarmedly remarks "days? One must have stamina!".It looks to be a machine-made brass hookah, I believe Syrian but I'm not positive. It seems to have a second tray used to hold the hose, similar to the AF pipe among others, although I don't think I've seen a waterpipe with a second tray right at the base like this one. Note that the bowl appears to be female, which is traditionally indicative of Egyptian pipes, and the tray under it is totally flat, which again is something you don't often see. It looks like there may be some decorative chain on the stem on the lower third, but it's hard to tell. The hose and base are quite standard, blue and gold. antouwan
the "flat tray" isn't a tray per se, i believe it's the holder for the tray, like on KM's and most other handmade waterpipes where the tray doesn't snap in. it appears too small to actually be the tray

Balthazar
Dunno if this has been discussed in the past, but as some of you might know there's a hookah in the show Carnivale, smoked by Professor Lodz and Lila. I recall seing more than just this one hookah in the show, but it's been a few years since I saw it so I don't really remember where or by whom.Anyways, this is from the first episode. I watched it about a week after I had taken a hookah-break, and boy did I want to smoke after seing this. leadpipecinch21
it looks to me like that first hookah is assembtled incorrectly...i think the bottom tray is the ash tray...
jayson
Yeah, I spotted this as well gaia. It's funny how many hookahs are in different shows, now that you know what they are.

HookahDude831
it looks like they put the tray on the bottom of the stem? wow. Is it just me, or are some people just really ambiguous
gaia.plateau
Episode 6, "Our Mrs. Reynolds", 42:03We can see now that the ash tray is definitely on the bottom of the stem... odd to be sure. We can also see the valve port in this shot, resembles that of a KM. Edited March 3, 2008 by gaia.plateau
