The Sims2. dry.gif

My girlfriend's laptop is messed up from copyright protection software called SecuRom which is on the newer Sims2 expansions. Well, I'm gonna put together (or buy complete) a computer for her to play the games on. They don't mesh well with laptops, but SecuRom I guess specifically has problems with Windows Vista and Toshiba disk drives (which her laptop has), as well as other programs/software. I want this to be as cheap as possible (don't need a monitor, etc, just the tower itself). Here is a list of the minimum system requirements for The Sims 2:

QUOTE
<a name="manufacturersdesc">•1.3 Ghz processor (2.0 for Vista)
•512 MB RAM (1GB for Vista)
•Windows® Vista, Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98 or Windows 2000 Operating System.
•8x or faster CD/DVD drive
•At least 1.5 GB of additional hard drive space (5.0 GB total is required if installing both The Sims 2 and The Sims 2 Bon Voyage Expansion Pack at the same time.)
•A T&L-capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM.

Supported video cards:

•ATI Radeon™ series 8500 or better (9600 or greater required for Vista)

•X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950

•GeForce 2, 2 GTS

•GeForce 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950
•S3 GammaChrome
•S18 Pro
•S18 Ultra

Intel® Extreme Graphics (see note below)
82865, 82915 and above

NOTE: If you have a non-T&L capable video card, such as Intel Extreme Graphics, then you need at least a 2.4 GHz processor.

Can any of you find/build me a computer online, or at least the components (as I've seen you do for some other members) for a computer that will specifically be for gaming, and almost exclusively for the Sims2?
I appreciate it, guys. biggrin.gif

i love this stie and has free shipping, add a video card to this and you will be more then fine, also you would need a OS, i know you can build better for cheaper but these are decent prices and kill any deal you will find at best buy or something, just an option, personally build to your needs at new egg, you can get a great machine for 500 or so...

ohh yeah heres the link

That's not bad at all, thanks a lot zeppyrkr. That's definitely in my price range as well, lol. I'm looking for $500 at the most, considering the point of the computer she needs is pretty damn trivial (imo). rolleyes.gif

The Sims is pretty damn addicting though...I avoid playing that game at all costs unless I have at least 5 hours of free time to completely blow. wallbash.gif

Yup, that looks good for your purposes. I'd say to go with the x2 4200+ CPU upgrade, but other than that it looks solid.

uhhh, it is 2gb RAM, and it's not what kind of system (desktop, laptop) that determines how a game will run. The problem that laptops have is that they generally have severe power/heat limits and thus high-end CPUs/GPUs can't run on them. Thus bad performance in games. EA games is just a bitch publishing company.

I've seen laptops which had the hardware to run games (yes, even EA games), they just run out of battery after 30 minutes.
P4 prescott 3.2ghz, 512mb DDR333, Geforce FX5600, 19" widescreen w/1280x720 max standard resolution. That thing runs so goddamn hot... It was absolutely top of the line when it was bought, but it's pretty much just a desktop because the battery only lasts for a half hour.

Sorry man, I've gotta rag on you every chance I get because you work at best buy. sleep.gif Edited by St. Goodypants

It ran fine on the laptop...for hours on end (sadly lol) but SecuRom fucked it up and now it doesn't recognize the disk drive, even though when a disk is put in the drive, you can hear activity....just nothing on the computer itself. Even an online system check thing I did to see if games will run, said it doesn't have a disk drive. Mother fucking shit.

Do I need to reformat the drive and then reinstall windows? (I need a Vista disc, damn it!)
