Diffuser.

Can someone tell me exactly why I would want a diffuser?
I really have no clue on what its for and what it does.


ALSO Is there a difference between using an egyption head compared to a short modern ceramic head? OR say a longer head compared to a shorter?

I've never had first hand experience with a diffuser but basically it's a little thing thats somewhat like a tiny shower head that goes on the bottom end of the hookahs stem (in the water). The point of it is to break up the smoke into many tiny bubbles instead of a couple large ones. This supposedly filters and cools the smoke more because more of the smoke is going through the water before rising into the chamber.

In theory it works, or at least I have heard it works. To what extent, I'm not sure because like I said I've never used one.

kk thanks, that makes alot of sense, but I wonder if the difference is great enough to be worth using one.

Diffuser is supposed to enhance flavor and smoothness, but I can't comment on this. It's good for quieting a hookah during a TV show or a movie.

Never heard longer bowl vs. shorter bowl, I've heard deeper vs. shallow. Unless you are talking about the length of the smoking session, longer bowl would last longer and hold more tobacco.

For flavor the whole time during the session though, I recommend a funnel or super chief. Otherwise the juices will run down the stem..

But steemax, about making a difference, I can't imagine its worth it. I mean, I've been on the forums for a little over a year now and pretty much everyone has heard of a diffuser and no one rants and raves about how great they are, so it's a safe bet that they're nothing spectacular.

Yeah someone gave me one and there is a negligible difference besides being quiet.

Another advantage to a diffuser, is if you have a smaller hookah, it keeps the water from splashing as much and getting into the hose.

It's hard at first to get in on right but in the end it pays off. Ya the noice goes down a lot (which sucks) but it does make everything hit a lot smoother. The only problems I find with it is getting it on and off, keeping it on the stems (like on and MYA hookah), and it being so smooth all the time you smoke a lot fast (at least I do). I would get it for tangiers if it's too harsh for you. It really does work.

I use one as well, I like it....I can take it or leave it. It does seem to pull smoother. Would I go out of my way to get one? No, but since I got one, I use it.

The smoke SEEMS a little smoother with one and it's a lot more quiet. From my experience, Tangiers seems to do well with a diffuser.

yup, agreed. i don`t use mine everytime, because i like the bubbling sound but it`s good for watching movies etc.

Damn, that's actually a damned good use, and something I'd use it for lol. I watch movies quite a bit when smoking hookah and sometimes the bubbling is a bit of a problem when the dialogue is at a soft point. Maybe Ill make one out of a ping pong ball just for when I watch movies haha.

I may have to invest in one then. We often do a hookah/movie night at my place and I hate having to wait to draw during quieter moments in the movie. That and one of my neighbours has already accused me of using a similar device that bubbles so it would be nice to avoid the trouble that comes with that.

i dremeled holes in my small egyptian downstem. just makes it so the water doesn't bubble too high

I use mine every time too. I think its good. It does make it quieter and I feel like I get better smoke

I used to use one all the time but my friends swore it didn't make a difference. And now one I made and one I bought are missing. But I won't be getting another one.

Hmm..it might filter out more of the harmfull substances since the smoke will have a larger surface area to come into contact with water, but that is just speculative though. Never tried one myself, i love my bubbling hookah.
