AKammenzind
I've been wondering, and after quickly searching the forums with no luck... is it better to have a lot of room for smoke at the top of your base? Or less room? Does it make any difference, and if so, what? Also, has anyone noticed how your smoke is affected by how far into the water the downpipe goes? austinthecity
Water level should be about 1/2 or an inch above the bottom of the downstem. This helps ease of pull. Also, I prefer about a softball size area for the smoke in the base, but I base that on where the downstem is...
staygone
Bet you it doesn't make enough difference for us to be concerned about. Either way, all the smoke goes through water before you inhale it.The downstem shuld be submerged 1-1.5 inches into the water. -QM Edited March 3, 2008 by QuiltedMaple
AKammenzind
Ah, k so there's no noteworthy difference in smoke quality if you would filter the smoke through, say, 4 inches of water? I don't mean health-related benefits... I couldn't care less about that hehe, just thought it might change the smoke texture, cool it down more, perhaps make it thicker? Perhaps it would make it thinner, or less flavorfull? I might have to try adding a couple inches of PVC pipe to my downpipe just to try it out. staygone
The farther the downstem is submerged into he water, the harder the draw you will have, and the higher chance of bubbling into the hose due the the huge bubbles that are generated.1-1.5 inches is the optimal choice.-QM
Scoop
i wouldn't use pvc. its known to leech styrene."The EPA has described styrene as "a suspected carcinogen" and "a suspected toxin to the gastrointestinal, kidney, and respiratory systems, among others."Personally, even if its in the water, id prolly stay away
The Devils Playground
Higher the water the better the smoke and easir to maintain the smoke. So for a thicker smoke always higher water level.Try both way and just thank me later.
