First Smoke!

Well guys, I finally got that hookah! Everything came perfectly... nothing broken, everything there. And to my delight, I didn't get the dreaded belgium coals! I got this brand I haven't seen before... it says chineseshisha.com on the roll... but I think they did alright.

So we started at five... I packed some Al Waha Orange Cream first. The ceramic bowl that came with the hookah is pretty shallow... so I packed all the way to the top. Barely touching the foil. It worked alright. But when I took the foil off, there was a bunch of burnt shisha stuck to it lol and some of the shisha at the top of the bowl was burnt. But it really didn't make the smoke harsh at all. I'm glad.

Then I made up some Al Waha After Nine... same method. The first few minutes the smoke was really harsh... burnt all the way down. Then I moved the coals around and it was MUCH better. Really minty and the whole room smelled like chocolate!

Although I got sick of the AN after a while... not sure why. I have a headache right now and every time I smell my clothes (which smells like stale after nine) I get shivers and feel nauseous. I think its due in part to the coals... as I used only one for the Orange cream (broke in half) but I used two for the AN.

Other than that, everything went very well
I was surprised I got to smoke so much out of that shallow little bowl. It only held maybe... 10-20g or so. But we (four of us) were smoking that After Nine for a good 45 minutes.

So... thanks everyone for all the great info! If it weren't for you guys, I would be burning the hell out of my shisha lol.

Good to hear that your first session went well. Be thankful that you didn't have a bad first session like I did.

When I got my first hookah I invited a couple of friends over thinking I was going to have a great session (Don't know why I thought that since that was my first time packing my own bowl) and lets just say my friends weren't too happy with my "skills" and neither was I. Didn't get my first decent session until after my 5th or 6th try lol.

Lol yea I was pretty lucky. I think Al Waha was a good brand to start with.

One thing I did do wrong though was, when I was moving a coal down to the ashtray, I accidentally dropped it on the carpet. Lets just say Derek (my good friend who's room we were smoking in) was NOT too happy.

Although I washed it very very hard with a washcloth and got it back to normal looking pretty fast. Thank goodness for dark blue carpet!

Haha I've done that too. Hell I think anyone that's been smoking hookah has a carpet burn story. I recently burned my friends carpet but he actually took it pretty okay. Luckily the burn wasn't too bad and a little while after my accident he dropped an entire quicklite coal on the carpet. Now THAT was a nasty burn, but it took the heat off of me so it worked out haha. Edited March 4, 2008 by Raziel510

Glad to hear you had a good first session. Ya when one of my buddies bought his first hookah, he dropped a quick light on lanolium. It was bad. So what hookah did you get?

Not a bad little hookah My buddies were pretty jealous. I was making my friend Wade want to buy one. Haha.

Like I said, the bowl is pretty shallow which kinda disappointed me. But everything else.. just beautiful I'm really glad I bought it.

I'm thinking about trying Al Fahker next... instead of Al Waha. I hear its way better. That and Starbuzz, I really want to try.

Glad to hear your first time was a success! Dealing with the coals is the hardest part to get used to. Packing the bowls is a much more subtle skill, I guess, because if you pack it poorly you can still have a good session, but not as good. The first time I packed the bowl went pretty decently, but I had someone show me how to do it before that. Nice looking Hookah too!

if the shisha cakes on the foil its not a big deal...i haven't noticed anything bad, however i never underpack my bowls
