nat3r
im seriously considering buying a hobohookah, using it as a main hookahive been smoking hookah for about a year with my friends and stuff, and ive read up enough that i pretty much know the ins and outs of a hookah. Ive setup hookahs for friends and stuff, so i have enough knowledge to spend a bit more on my first hookah.people have said that the hobohookah isnt a good starter hookah, but the evidence why isnt really there, if anyone can give me a good reason why...please dobut so far i understand that:its washableits simpleits durablewhich would make it niceso i want to be able to get a glass bowl for private use, but when im with friends and stuff just use a regular bowl (i have no clue how to use a phunnel, and htough i sorta get it, i dont fully get the point)so 3 questions1) does the fact that it has no air valve really matter?2) foreign hose compatability...is there an adaptor i can get at all?3) anyone know if a smiley will fit on it?and also, could someone point me to a good article on putting holes in foil? i dont quite understand the methods, because ive seen some weird foil patters, and im just wondering how the holes work in conjunction with the coalsthanks,NateP.S. i really dont care for how aesthetically pleasing the hookah is, as long as it functions well
jamesh2
as far as the holeshttp://www.hookahforum.com/index.php?showtopic=10119that pretty much has any answers for setup you may needthe hh is a great idea, but im gonna recomend you hold off another week or so. im getting the witch from thehookah.com on monday and plan on smoking the shit out of it that night. its only 18 compared to the 50 somthing that the hh is (im sorry but for a stem and bowl thats too much). i plan on posting a good review since there are not that many. the negatives i have read on the witch are pretty lame (bad smell when getting it etc (this can be fixed, let it sit in warm water with lemon dish soap)). just my $.
jamesh2
imohobocans works for hh. im sure he has great pride in a product that tool much time to create, and is quite apt to defend it. i would do the same, consider the weight of the information. it would be the same as saying that because man who enjoys banana pie tells me to eat banana pie, it must be good. not so, i fucking hate that shit (not really but i think you get my point)i too considered the hh, but i figure for the price, ill start with the witch and if it sucks then i may get a hhi really just want a road trip/ drive in movie hookahone thing i will say, if your looking to use it as a replacement, durability will be quite important to youas far as your other questions, i cant speak from experience on most. the release valve thing just means that you are going to have to be more careful on heat management, because you cant purge the chamber of excess smoke when it gets harsh or too heavy.not sure on the other two, best bet is to write hobocan or somdbody from the website and ask Edited March 6, 2008 by jamesh2

MrMoodz
Not having a smoke release valve means that you have to pay better attention to heat management. One thing I love about the hobohookah is that it's super easy to clean.... Super super super easy to clean. I am using a large Jose Cuervo bottle (the one with the handle on it) as the hookah base and the setup works great. I also use the small coal tray that came with my Mya QT because it fits the hobohookah perfectly. In terms of a hose adapter, I haven't found one locally that fits nicely. A friend gave me an ELG brass colored hose adapter, but there aren't a lot of screw threads on it so it's not a good, clean fit. I did find some cheap ELG screw on hoses locally and it fits the hobohookah like a glove. I've been taking the hobohookah with me to parties and such, and the more I use it, the more I like it.As I said about the heat management, if the shisha starts to burn, I take the bowl off and blow into the bottom part of the bowl to get rid of the nasty smoke. Otherwise I will remove the coals and take a hit from the hookah to clear the burning smoke out. My friends bought me the hobohookah package that just comes with the hobohookah itself and a bag for $30.00.
r1v3th3ad
I thought about getting one, seems like a good reason to have that collection of empty liquor bottles lollemme know how it goes if you do decide on one
nat3r
will do r1vok so heat management is a bit harder to fix, but still fairly simplefor the people that have the hobo, do you have a hose adapter for it? or do you use the washable hose that came with itone thing that sort of bugs me abotu the hobohookah is that in a lot of pictures, the bowl seems to lean, and i know its a petter cosmetic issue, but i really want this purchase to be perfect haha
mathuv
i wouldnt consider the hobo to be a starter hookah.. for cheaper you can get a nice MYA QT which has it all, tray, purge valve and a non-screw in hose. the hobohookah would be good due to the fact that its portable, but then again so is the QT. just my €0.
nat3r
lots of people have the same opinion, however, i havent talked to a hobo owner yet that has told me it hasn't been worth the moneyplus, im not really looking for a starter hookah, even though i havent owned one yet, im always setting up my friends for him, since he cant pack a bowl at all, i had to teach him, so i think i know enough about it that i wouldnt classify myself as "new" Edited March 25, 2008 by nat3r

cargo
I own a hobo hookah it was my first hookah. I love it heat managment and first was hard but nothing more then a learning curve of a regular hookah. One of the best things after i realized ice in the base makes thick smoke is i started rotating bottles with one with water in the freezer so then next time i smoke i just refill the old bottle and then take out the frozen bottle, works like a charm. Also cleanup is nice and easy just running water through the hose when needed and putting the stem and bowl in the dish washer. I don't know if a smiley will fit on it but I bought a phunnel and that fits on perfectly fine. Only thing i recommend is to buy a cheap tray so you can set your coal on.
