Is This Normal?!

ok let me start by telling you guys this first, me and a buddy started having weird things happen when we would smoke like for example, we some times would get ash in our smoke and we always keep the downpipe 1 and half inches into the water but we just took it apart and cleaned it and tried again and we didnt get any ash that time however we did start getting chunks of plastic! then we found out one of my bearings were jammed so we cleaned that and bam more plastic,

after cleaning it we smoked again because hookahs amazing and i was taking it apart to clean it again after that smoke and BAM broken hookah! my downpipe fell into my vase and it was still screwed into the metal piping of the stem and when it broke it made a pretty clean cut and i was looking at the bottom of the stem and there was that plastic crap where my down pipe should be screwed in, kinda like a seal maybe? heres a pic:

and this hookah is my first hookah and being stupid i didnt think that the pipe went all the way up the stem (in my defense the pipe broke off very cleanly ) so i used jucey fruit gum (the pink stuff in the pic haha) and stuck the down pipe back on my hookah! tried to smoke it and off the first hit got ash and the water was not bubbling, so i didnt take another hit

but i just want to know if this is a normal thing????? or maybe i just got a bad/cheap hookah?
and whats with the plastic??

I'm not too sure from the pics, but I think you just got a shitty hookah. Better luck next time.
