the beatles are over rated. period. end of discussion.

SO TRUE!...the early shit was good but......I really don't think they are the GODS that most people think they are.

I think all of their stuff was great. Yea they are a tad overrated, but really, who isn't overrated anymore?

But by far, drugs and music do go hand in hand, and theres no way that the music would be the same without it

The beatles have influenced music more than any of us will ever know. They had such a unique sound, mixing full orchestras, middle eastern sounds etc. In my opinion they have influenced all music since they began, wheather it be directly or through another band taking off them.

I will also agree with this. Most the hype they get is warranted because they did so much to influence others. The bands that start movements are the ones that deserve the hype, not the ones that follow a proven pattern.

In my opinion, music would be exactly where it is now even if the legends of rock had not ended their lives unnaturally. People's tastes are constantly changing, thus new genres are born and old genres are moved to the back burners.

NHT I think have influenced the music in a positive way, because of the physical effects they have..Creativity is born in a delta state of mind (I believe it's delta) and NHT gets you to those states unnaturally. The same thing can be done with meditation/trances though.

However, NHT abuse has negatively effected all genres due to regulations being imposed on concert gatherings (it was proposed to highly regulate raves due to NHT, although no mention of other genres, which is pretty discriminatory tongue.gif)

Lets not gather the green NHT (harmless) in with the pills and powders(the killers)... Green NHT isnt gonna hurt anybody. Its ridiculous that its even illegal.

I dont think deaths influenced anything, but the drugs while they were alive influenced it heavily for sure. If you dont believe be try for yourself, especially if you play an instrument. The things that come out of it will be unbelievable.

As for people not smoking at concerts, it still happens at every concert I go to. All indoors with smoking bans inplace in the states where they happen. I've had cops walk up and say "put it out or you're outa here" thats as far as they go.. Its not a criminal act to smoke nht so they dont bother. Plus its nothing compared to the other things going around at concerts.

The sad part about music in my opinion today is that there are very few bands that in 30 years our children or childrens children will be listening to.

So much of the 60s and 70s music is timeless and will never be bad.

What about Bradley Nowell of Sublime? They only released (barely) 3 albums and just started getting national attention when he died. Imagine if he had lived another decade or more...

RIP Bradley Nowell

wow, this is a great topic. it really gets me thinking about how one person can change a whole generation. its sad that pioneers have to go so soon before they may have even reached their prime. what about biggie? i know its not rock music, but go back and listen to some of his songs, pure genius on some of his songs the way he could tell a story. maybe rap wouldnt be where its at now, i could only wish.

Since I was born in 1953 and music is such a big love of my life, every genre much of today's music also but "If my mother was a Rottweiller, I'd just be barking up another tree".
If you were born with inner vision, if G-D forbid you were blind, or deaf. What if dog's didn't have fleas? Maybe he'd be picking them off you? I remember Elvis Presley on the radio all the time. Who had stereo in 1958? Maybe Maybe the Dead Kennedy's while they were alive. You could see music like a river, flowing, sometimes dried out, overflowing it's banks, damned by human engineering. The way mainstream musicians are pushed to produce and overproduce, they naturally either quit or "quit" this world. It's the people from all grass roots cultures who flowed with the tide that could slowly but surely keep a good long pace and leave a legacy. but not to knock those mentioned like Janis Joplin still before her peak.Elvis was way past his peak.Ricky Nelson RIP was past his,my favourite Farid-al Atrash the Syrian -Druze singer is no more.... or Triphonas the Greek. The perfect example is Tchaikovsky who died young."Don't drink the local water".

Rock and Roll would have evolved even if all of those great artists would have been around longer than they were. New styles of music especially in today's industry are arising. Artists are trying to break the mold that was set by musicians before them. With that said I have already read several posts that say that music has no "soul" or has “no talent”. I think contrary, to even make it in the music business today there has to be talent involved and each artist portrays how they feel within their music. So no it’s not the same as Hendrix, the “King”, Queen, etc. it is a new style. The only thing that would have happened differently is those artists would have had more albums for us to enjoy or criticize today

I wish Keith Moon the drummer from The Who was still alive also. He is an awesome drummer. I love to watch him play. There are so many music legends that we lost. SRV for another. Man just think of the tunes this man did not release yet, and to think I passed on the concert at Alpine Valley the night he died.

The good old days of horse tranquilizers and passing out on drum kits Keith Moon was one hell of a drummer
