Hobo Questions

Recommended Posts

I've had a Hobo since January, but I haven't used it more than a few times since I got my Mya a few weeks afterwards. I had a couple questions and I was hoping some of you guys might know the answers.

1. The hose doesn't seem to be as easy to hit as my mya, or even this old Syrian I had from some local store. Is it supposed to be a little harder to hit, or is it some sort of problem I'm facing?

2. Is there any way to cut the stem? It seems like it's a little long for certain things, and I think cutting it down an inch or two (not down TO an inch or two) would be a lot better. (Mostly since I'd love to use a Sobe bottle.)

3. The smoke seems to be a lot less flavorful from the Hobo, but I think this may be related to the fact that I haven't tinkered with the heat management or anything like that in months.

I like it just fine as is, but if I could figure all this stuff out, I would totally love it.

The hose is prob very thin, hence the portability. I know the hobo uses only "screw in hoses" so you may be able to use the ends and make the tube wider/longer. My guess is that it was designed to be lightweight so that you dont pull over the bottle. Its made to be used with things ranging from water bottle to liquor bottle. An empty bottle of JD could easily handle a heavy hose but a 1/2 filled water bottle might not be able to do the same. Anyway, to asnwer question one, its the hose not you.

I'm sure you could cut the stem but dont make it so short you cant use it with a wine bottle or something like that, unless you're sure you will never do this. Also make sure to get ALL the small metal shaving which will be around. The last thing you need is to inhale shards of sharp metal into your lungs.

The smoke is prob less flavorful due to heat managment. Try using the hobo base/stem/hose and the bowl you use on your other hookah. If you still get the same problem I'm not sure.

GL hope this helps

Maybe I can add some insight...

1) The Hobo hose is a washable hose, but sometimes they can get clogged. Do you rinse it out at all? If you do want to upgrade it, Hookah-Shisha.com sells cloisonne hoses (like the Myas) they have removeable tips. You can unscrew the hookah end an screw it on the Hobo. My Hobo gets a lot of use, so I use these hoses a lot since they clean up nice, and last really long.

2) You can cut the end. It is stainless, so make sure to use a blade that can accomodate. The new Hobos will have a 10" versus a 12" pipe, due to some of the feedback we have gotten.

3) Haven't had any problems with the flavor on our end. If you are having problems with heat management, try an old school Egyptian Bowl. The bowl in Hobo V1.0 is a mod, ceramic bowl and it seems to heat up which makes heat management more of an art. The regular clay egyptian bowls regulate heat better. Thats another change we are going to make.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks guys. Like I said, I do still love the hobo, and after trying the bowl that came with it on my mya last night, I found out it's a lot harder to regulate heat on that one. I'll try using my mya bowl on it tonight and see what happens. I may have to get me another hose, but I do wash this one out before and after every use. I'm probably only going to cut an inch to an inch and a half off. Only because my main reason for buying a hobo was so it would be easier to smoke in the car, and a Sobe bottle would work perfectly if the stem would fit.

Aside from the minor little issues with the bowl (it's the bowl I think, I'm better with my Mya bowl) you guys did a really good job designing this thing.

ahh but see, there are some bottles that are much bigger than most bases out there, so it wouldnt really matter...the hobohookah has the capabilitys to be on some pretty wide bases, so it should be fine...of course i wouldnt abandon the easy to use mod hose, that would be the portable one
