LyricalX
Well I finally had my first hookah session the other night. It started off good, nice smooth hits, alot of smoke, nice buzz. But after awhile the smoke was very little and slightly harsh. After a few mins. I started to feel sick. So that was the end of that. After I took the foil off I saw that one side of the shisha was burnt some, and the other size had lowered alot (is that normal just from the juices falling?)So I have a few questions, I used 1.5 33mm quicklites, one on the outside the small one in the middle, should I maybe just use the one whole one? the size of them seems like they would cover plenty of the bowl on it's own. Also, what's the best way to ash the coals and how often do you guys rotate them?Or any other suggestions?Thanks-Chris
yeshua_cxc
The reason it got harsh was probably because you burnt the tobacco. Were you rotating your coals around the bowl?Several reasons you could have gotten sick:Did you eat before you smoked? Because you should. And you need to make sure to eat and drink something while you're smoking also.If I don't have something sweet to eat or drink when I smoke hookah my blood sugar crashes so bad I nearly pass out. supersubby
depending on ur bowl or hookah . 1 whole ql should be enough. start out on the edge of the bowl and move it around workin ur way in the middle. that way you get an even burn
bassman65
Sounds like too much heat to start off. Use just 1 at first, then if you think it can handle more, add another half. For ashing, I take the coal and kind of lightly lift and drop it repeatedly on the ash tray. This shakes off most of the ash on the sides, and I scrape off the top a bit with the hole poker. I rotate when the smoke seems to get thinner when I know the shisha is not completely done.

I'll probably just try one coal next time too.Would it be likely that just the one side of the shisha was touching the foil? Or perhaps I just left the coals their too long? bassman65
What kind of shisha btw? All I can say at this point is try it with one coal and see where it goes from there.
DRainh2o
It can also harsh up if a lot of ash falls in the holes. A way to fix that if it gets harsh is taking the coals of the bowl and when the bowl cools blowing through the bottom of the bowl. How big were your holes in the foil? Another thing to try is starting the hookah with small hits not long drags. Long hits to begin with can burn the top lair and make the smoking harsh. Other then that just try breaking one 33m in half and rotating it and when those halves burn down do the same with another because with a normal bowl you can get through at least 2.As for it being lower on one side, you probably just didn't have enough on that side and it settled or you moved the bowl and it shifted.
