Alle
I don't know what kind of coals I have, as I just bought it in a foil roll, but they look like this:I light them, and they spark for a bit, but then they stop. I have been holding a lighter to them to get them to light more, and get mostly red before I put them on the foil. Is that the right way to do it? SimplexCoda
Well these are called quick light coals. They spark while they are lighting and then once they are done sparking pretty much either just let them sit for a minute or blow on them till the whole thing is red. That worked best for me when I used quick lights. Im not a fan though.
Alle
I saw you using some brick looking ones. What kind are they?
SimplexCoda
Those exotica natural coals. I perferre them to quicklights. They take longer to light cause you have to let them gt some ash built up on all sides, but worth it in my opinion.
Alle
I'll have to see if my shop carries those. What is the best method for breaking a quicklite in half?

SimplexCoda
I dont really know cause i never broke my quicklights but what i do with my exoticas is take the sharp pointy part of my tongs and cut all side a little then just break it.
EternalSoil
with quicklights just score them on top with your tongs then they will break cleaner
erufiku
Easies way to break a QL in my experience is to use a steak knife (or another serrated-blade tool). Don't cut them all the way through, just a lil' but and then break using your hands. Perfect halves (and quarters in my case)
olooko
scoring with a blade and snapping with your hands works good. I personally keep a razor blade next to my quick lights. From what you described, you have what i got. Alkhar ql. They are one of the best kind of ql i have ever used. Just let them sit a bit before you take a drag ( lets the chemicals burn off).
