GiantSquid
So, I'm in my bud's basement smoking some Layalina Eskandarani Apple, using an apple bowl with some apple cider in the vase (I call it apple explosion). Anyway, I'm listening to their band practice, and you guys should check them out and give me some input on likes/dislikes about it. I (and they) would really appreciate it. leadpipecinch21
http://www.myspace.com/volettamusicgoodsolid riffssurprisingly good singing voice, though it's not my styledrummer seems to be solid, sometimes the double bass gets repetitive and boring, though there are some spots where it's actually used really effectively...guitarist(s?) is good...catchy riffs and licks, though some of the solos go on for too long, but that's just my opinion.fat earl has a decent poppy radio feel and actually reminds me a lot of caroline's spineneeds improvementthe biggest problem i have is the sound quality. it's really compressed and ends up sounding a bit muddy at some points, especially when listening through studio monitors, though i have a feeling some of that comes from myspace compression.the drums need to be miced better...the snare is too low in the mix, the toms are virtually non-existant, and the cymbals sound very tinny, though again that's the compression coming in to play.i would also like to hear the bassist mix it up some...straight roots all the time gets repetitive and boring, especially in the solo section of renounced...some 1-3-5-1 arpeggios or a little bit of walking/wandering to the next root would sound so much better thereso yeah. not exactly my style(i'm more of a punk/alternative guy), but for what it is it's pretty good...definitely a band that could shape itself for an indie label.
