Flavor Testing, And A Question.

Recommended Posts

So last night, some friends and I decided to try out 3 flavors of Al Waha that we have yet to try from our sampler pack. We started off the night with some pineapple in a friends hookah with milk in the base. We only used his because it has a small base, therefore less milk, and some coconut in my homemade hookah. The milk kept bubling up so we finally dumped it, but the hookah was so nasty (I will never toutch that hookah again, i don't know how he smokes out of it) we decided to pull the bowl off and save it. The coconut had really good flavor, in terms of pure flavor it might have been my favorite yet. But here is the question. We had a problem with it getting harsh. Not like it was burning, because it was not it still had flavor, but it was drying out our throats like you wouln't believe. We tried moving the coals and taking them off, ect. but nothing. Has anyone else had this experince? The shisha was really dry, could that have something to do with it? So then the pineapple was ok, not much flavor. Then we finished off with a small bowl of orange, and it was really flavorfull, but not my favorite flavor by far.

Al Waha tends to be a little dry as it is, so that makes it a little harsh to begin with. Also, in my experience, "softer" flavors like this tend to be very picky about the heat you use. Al Amir vanilla was like that for me, and so was Romman melon flavor. I'm not quite sure why it's like that with the lighter flavors, but the first thing to try is use less heat. You can always add more if you need to. One good thing that worked for me was to start with one piece of coal, and if that'n not enough, put on a wind cover. I'd try that before adding another coal. If that doesn't get you the clouds you want, keep repeating until you get it to the right heat.
