Lighting Natural Coals

Does anyone use a handheld Butane/Propane Blow Torch/ Pen Torch(not torch lighters) to light natural coals? Does it work alright and real draw backs?

I searched a bit but couldnt find anything.

Only thing is that if you dont get them red red hot, you get the coal taste with them. I got a coil burner and couldnt be happier that I did. No more coal flavor for 10 mins into my session. I used one for a month or 2 and it wasnt the best experience.

Alright, Im assuming even with the torch it takes a while to get them hot?

Where I will be using my hookah I dont have access to an outlet and dont want to dish out the money for a gas burner.

Coil burner is your best bet.

I have a friend who uses a small blowtorch. It lights them real fast, but I never liked the idea of keeping a blowtorch in the trunk of your car.

If you get a torch get either a Port-a-Torch or Bernzomatic. If you get the Bernz, get the instant trigger version, it has a button on it that you hold and it provides the flame. I like that one over any other.

Thanks guys, looks like I might as well go with the portable burner its about the same price as the torches. I need to talk to HR over at Home Depot tomorrow about a summer job again i'll check some prices there but im not holding my breath.

i just use quicklights when i dont have access to an out lit.

I use a small butane stove when im outside. Actually i use it to make tea with, just leave the coals on the outside of the tea pot and they'll be lit in no time.

A proctor-silex fifth burner is your best friend. See your local target / walmart.
