Rekindeling A Bowl...

Recommended Posts

So I know everybody says that you can relight a bowl, esp. a phunnel if the tobacco isnt burnt. I tried this a few times over the last few days and each time I noticed that the flavor had an odd rubbery/soapy taste to it for a while and nce it passed the flavor was nowhere near as good as it was to start with. I even stirred up the baccy so the juice didnt settle. Is this normal?

It was fantaisia both times, and each time I only let it sit for like a half hour.

That is weird. I left a bowl out overnight after smoking for a little with Fantasia and it smoked perfect the next day.

Could it be because its a new bowl? maybe they use some kind of cleaning agent before they ship them out. I probably should have washed it first...

what kind of bowl? if it's a regular bowl, chances are that a lot of the juices leaked down the stem, causing a lack of flavor. if it was a phunnel, well...that's just weird then.

I always do it with a phunnel. That does sound like the source of the OPs problems.

and yes, always wash any new hookah stuff you get.

try maybe taking just a little off the top layer and add just a little fresh shish. thats what i do with non tangiers shish in my phunnel and it stopped any different tastses... if its tangiers i just mix it up and its fine.

i relight my bowls when i drive + hookah. normal set up for my morning commute, just bring extra foil. for the way home, take off the old foil, flip over the shisha, and relight. works fine.

Curious as how you hold the coals in place(no, not from falling like alll those aluminum fold ups that work as walls, i mean displacement of coals), and what holds the hookah in place.

Do you have a wind screen / heat shield? Whenever I relight a bowl, I like to use the normal amount of coals + the heat shield. It helps the coals heat the whole thing at once as opposed to top-down.

So usually when I relight bowls, I'll use the normal amount of coals that I would start a fresh bowl with, but I'll use the wind screen in addition.
