Voski
The mod won't make a difference, but if you must I use 3 sets of rings on my small phunnel

jfaltous
It's kind of trickier with the mod, less forgiving I find. You need to find a balance in the amount of airflow you have. Because the mod brings the heat straight through all of the shisha, you want to keep the number/size of holes limited... but at the same time the mod restricts airflow slightly, so you want more/bigger holes Generally I use the same hole pattern (3 rings) both with and without the mod, but just beware that with the mod you have to be more careful to get the perfect smoke session. Its all about experimenting and finding out what works best for you with your own bowl and mod... keep in mind its easy to replace foil several times over in a session till you get it right
cr3am
At the hookah bar I worked at, I used to make smaller holes when we used mods. However, it's really tricky to pack bowls with mods (it's really easy to pack them too tight) and whenever we had a problem with that, I would just use a toothpick and poke the holes straight down to the bottom. But if you're just asking about number of holes, I would just put as many holes as I could in a circle until I was too close to the mod. If your holes are small enough, you can never have too many.
