John Stuart Mill
Should we really be concerned about hookah's image? If certain members hadn't noticed smoking is on the wayside anyways. I have people accost me in the street advising me of the detrimental effects of cigarettes. Plus, it isn't as though Middle Eastern culture currently resonates with most Americans. I seriously doubt hookah will ever become a legitimate pastime in the view of society. However, that doesn't necessarily entail a ban. Anyone should know what other questionable paraphernalia remains on the market. Edited March 19, 2008 by John Stuart Mill
cr3am
I mean, just look back to Alice in Wonderland. The Caterpillar wasn't smoking tobacco in his pipe. When hookahs first got somewhat popular in America, it wasn't for tobacco. On the plus side, however, college students around the country more or less know what Hookah is used for, and know that if you're smoking illegal substances, you wouldn't be using hookah to do it.But yeah, who cares? I'll care when they want to ban it, but that's not happening.
erufiku
The problem is that misconceptions, if widespread enough, will eventually cause repressive action from the government's side. That's why it's important (and worthwhile) to fight said misconceptions. So that you can enjoy your hookah tomorrow.

The government won’t ban a particular metal piece with a bowl and vase attached. In any case, the judiciary would certainly block such laws. Look at other paraphernalia to demonstrate this. The government is loath to deem a certain piece of glass as illegal. How can they know with certainty its purpose?
Sethram
I'm somewhat concerned because I hate being judged incorrectly by people. Unfortunately those outside of the know believe that NHT is smoked with a hookah, not tobacco. As for the anti-smokers, they can tell me the negatives all they want. So long as smoking bans don't make it inconvenient for me to smoke I'll be fine.
