and no to the rotator, not a good pipe.

Definitely agree with this. Look at it this way, if you're concerned about passing a hose then get a KM or Mya, they come with pretty long hoses as is. If you go for a Mya, you'll have the option of putting up to 4 hose ports on it whenever the mood hits also.

It's largely down to personal preference on appearance, but here's my opinion: stick with the big name brands, as in Mya, KM or MZ. Personally, having owned all of them, I'd take the KMs over MZs any day for both appearance and quality. They're both Egyptian style pipes that give great smoke and all. Myas have the advantage in that they're more easily portable/storable, they all come with hard carrying cases and they all come apart for very easy cleaning. Disadvantage to the Myas vs Egyptians is the common chamber.

So for my $0.02... If you're looking for a one-hose smoke, then its going to be personal preference between Mya and KM. I'd recommend Mya Vortex or KM Trimetal. If you're looking for a multi-hose option, then definitely Mya (again, Vortex). Alternatively the Mya Obelisk is gorgeous as well. The Mya Staff is pretty pimp too although I've never seen one in person.

If you want to save a bit of money, I'd highly suggest a Magdy Zidan from HookahCompany. If you can spend a little more, buy an MZ and a bunch of shisha. A Khalil Mamoon will do well too.

Get a 30" Badr from Hookah Company. Solid brass stem that you can disassemble into a few pieces for transport/easy cleaning. And it comes with a decent hose too (not washable though, so keep that in mind).

As for coals... they have a bunch:

I'd either go with 3 Kings or the Japanese Golden coals.

And HC has a ton of shisha... my favorite these days is Fusion. Especially Lemon Mint. Yum.

I am just a noob, but....... outside of a few packs of quicklights for special occasions when you need portability and convenience, why not just use locally acquired natural? I am sure you have access to large amounts of natural coal. maybe it's just me, but the shipping would kill me.

I too would stay away from the rotator. but a multi hose is not a bad idea, especially if you are a party guy. If it is just a "you and a buddy" type smoke scenario, a single will be fine. I find the magic number to be 4. If you have more than 4 people, you will be waiting too long for your pass (too each his own, but I like a hit about every 30 seconds or so for 5 minutes, a hit a minute for about 10 minutes, then one every couple/few minutes... It is nice to have your own hose, smoke when you like, etc.

I'd go with the Mya Gyro, never heard any complaints about it, and quite a few people have them. There's only 2 things I would consider if buying this.

First, since its a two hose model, does it come with autosealing hose adapters? If yes, then thats great, but make sure if ALSO comes with one non-autosealing hose adapter and a purge values. I would *defintely* check for this! And if not, buy them. The autosealing is a must if you need two hoses functionality. But this means that you can't use the purge value, and I personally mess up my bowl often enough that I need that purge value! So I usually smoke with a non-autosealing hose adapter and the purge value. But it's good to have the option of both.

Second, Myas' have a "common chamber" (search forum), it means they're hard to fully purge. Usually this isn't a problem since often only purging 20% of the smoke is enough. But its worth considering if you're not very good at preparing shishas.

I would say the "ultimate" hookah is a KM tri-metal, but hookah company sell them. However the Mya Gyro isn't too far behind!

Oh yes, and buy a windcover for outside use, a set of cleaning brushes (unless you want your shisha to taste like ass after 20 uses), nammor hose, and a phunnel bowl or two!!!

Edit: Just noticed that the Gyro comes with a windcover and "cleaning rods". I'd check with HS to make sure they're good enough for the job. Edited by manic007

You might want to take a look at Worldhookah.com as well. I'm not sure about the shipping costs out of the country (JD had a good experience with them, from what I read,) but they have some great prices on their Myas. They can also probably get you a decent priced KM or Brass Syrian depending on what you prefer.

As far as coals go, they can be tricky. The only coals I have had consistently good experiences with are bulk naturals (Romman "lemonwood" and some local olivewoods I get that aren't labeled with any English.) I've bought two boxes of Exoticas, both of which wound up tasting and smelling like ****, so I wouldn't recommend them. Personally, I'd avoid QLs and fingers altogether in favor of naturals, but you may want to stock up on some purely for convenience. Edited by Ralleac

thats bullshit, a rotator can definately be a good pipe. i have two of them and they smoke perfect.
the old school rotator looks decent. and i believe someone on this forum has one (hookahmaster),
so you might ask him.

The rotator was my first hookah. I bought one from HS, not sure which one exactly..

Smoked it for about 5-6 months, as long as you know how to set up a bowl it smokes fine. Only thing that got annoying was screwing the stem onto the base.. I sometimes had difficulties with that.

So if you like the looks its a decent pipe. Doesnt compare to my KM but its still good.

@ manic007 - thanks for the good info, seems another fan of the KM trimetal. I'm generally quite good with my shisha, but sometimes i might burn it a little so im sure the purging of the KM will be handy.

@Ralleac - Funny enough Worldhookah.com was one of my first looks, but having not replied to my las two query's about shipping to South Africa, im not so sure. I also believe they are reliable, but unfortunately their website (their face) leaves allot of room for improvement. Thanks for the info on coals. noted. smile.gif

I think they refer people to that old school rotator as it has a wider stem and valves then the average hookah. Better airflow, but bulky.

Yet again, thanks for the information! biggrin.gif Edited by ICE-VaPa
