New Hookah...anyone Have Any Idea How Old It Might Be?

Recommended Posts

I'm going to guess mid 1900s. Beyond that I cant say. I just saw a few pictures from the late 1800s and early 1900s and the design on yours is different, more modern. The ash tray doesnt seem to be added to the design till the mid 1900s.

Ok ok..i get the idea..it needs to be polished... rolleyes.gif

Anyways, yesterday this man calls me at the shop. Says he and his wife are moving and they have this 4 foot all brass hookah his son picked up but left behind when he moved away from home. They said he told them to just get rid of it, do I want to buy it? I tell him likely I can't, but if he wanted to bring it in I could look it over for him and give him some idea of if it would work, where it was made, how much he might get for it and where to put it up for sale.

So he bings it in...i see the thing walk in the door in the guys hands and I'm like "holy shit". Im taking it apart, checking it out, looking real professional and credible. I tell him its beautifull, it need to be repaired, and i can't make a reasonable offer on it because things are a little tight at the bar this month.

So he says, make an unreasonable offer. I look at him and say " i can afford to offer you 25 bucks. Not really expecting him to accept but atleast I could be upfront and honest. He says "sold." So now i have the beast of a hookah I'm going to restore and smoke...I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Oh and thanks Bulldog for looking those pics up for me. My friend from Lebanon says he'd guess about 40-50 years old, so goes along wqith what you are guessing...

And YES, I'll polish the silly thing this weekend if I can. Gotta find some Wenol.

yep, you see a lot of weird looking hookahs in the middle east. a lot of the personal ones are handed down through the family so its not unusual to have a 30 or 40 year old hookah.

Just take your age and shave off about 25 years and that's my accurate guess to how old it is.

LOL! I KID MUSH! Don't ban me!

Brass does tarnish rather quickly so it can be anywhere from 2 to 200 years old. It's very hard to tell. Great find though!
