Lighting Those Natural Coals

Recommended Posts

I am ordering some exoticas and coconaras to try some natural coals again. My stove is a flat top with no coils to light them on and I am afraid of lighting them on the flat top without damaging it. How would you light these coals?

take an old pan that you don't use and throw them in there. It will probably take a bit longer to light, but should work. best if its stainless steel, as I'm a bit suspicious of various non-stick coatings.

Or you could go buy an electric hot plate for like $10-20 somewhere and use that.

don't light them on the glass stove top, i've been told that it will more than likely damage it. i've never used the pan, but have heard it recommended several times. in my experiences the coil burner is the fastest, most efficent way to light them. walgreens has them for like 10 bucks. you won't be disappointed!

i lit my exoticas with a gas stove. for some reason though bulk naturals wont light on my stove..

for exoticas, i just put em on the side, lit the fire, went and prepared my hookah, 5 mins later i'd come back, rotate the coals (move the side thats unburnt into the fire), give them another 3 mins, blow on them till the black stuff's gone and theyre done. i have only used an electric flat top to light naturals, they work very well and unless its glass, wont damage the top. if you're still scared of damage just use an old saucepan
