Help Me Save My Knees.

I notice that a lot of the people on the forums are avid snowboarders/skaters/etc., that is sports that are hard on the knees. Can you guys share some tips as to nutrition and supplementation that would make my knees healthier? I snowboard in the winter, skate in the summer, and go to the gym all year round, so my knees don't get too much rest. I wear braces but my knees hurt anyway :/ I don't want to stop doing anything in the near future so any advice is appreciated.

Snooping on the net, all I've seen are recommendations of products and comments that recommend against using said products because they're ineffective or downright dangerous. Found anything that works for you?

Calcium brah, drink lots of soy milk and stuff.

Got to look into the calcium brah. My problem's more about the connecting tissues (no idea what they're called in English wink.gif inside the knee cap, rather than the bones and supporting muscles themselves. Although I guess more muscle takes more strain off the knees themselves... But it's a vicious circle cause squats, etc = straining knees. Ugh.

Or at least wear knee pads.

What you two do behind closed doors is really none of my business. Thanks for sharing though. Good for you.... Good for you.

if you run, invest in some good shoes. when working out maintain proper position. ice and use heat pads on your knees.

The ice/heat thing, wouldn't it be just taking pain off? Kind of like curing the symptoms instead of the source?

Damn, dude, I'm 21... injections? Doc would sooner have me stop doing any sports than "waste" taxpayer's money on me.

If you do go running do it on an elliptical and keep correct posture. Don’t forget to stretch before and after you workout and or board. Any vitamins you can take will be good for you especially ones with calcium. When your knees do hurt heat then ice always helps me. I've been rough on my knees all my life with track, American football and snowboarding so I know all about the pain. Oh and also try 5 concussions.

No, it keeps the muscle from swelling/inflaming which can cause permanent damage. Usually best to do 24 hrs cold, 8 hot, 8 cold, 8 hot.

Ice helps reduce swelling and numbs sharp stinging pain. Heat increases circulation and relaxes muscles. its best to ice it 20 minutes after working out. then let it rest for 20 then heat for 20

Im not a doctor, but Ive had several knee surgeries, so I know where you are coming from. If you are having a serious problem with your knees, I would first suggest going to see an orthopedist to get an actual medical consultation. Other than that, invest in a good pair of gym/running shoes with proper arch and heel support (go to an actual running store and get them fitted properly), start taking a general multi-vitamin (I use GNC's men's sport), and make sure you stretch before and after you play sports or work out.
