Looking For Thick Smoke Tips

Recommended Posts

sup, so i just recently bought the mya vortex hookah, it kicks amazing and is very smooth and rich. I always use al fakher tobacco, and 40 mm insta light coals. I was recently watching some youtube videos and i saw this guy doing CRAZY O's and he was getting so much smoke in 1 hit. I was wondering if there were any special add ons you can get, or maybe a certain ay to chill the water to just reall increase the smoke.

here is the video (dudes insane)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35npEebvgrw...feature=related

probably just his tobacco, that or his way of heat managment,

try cutting ur coals in half and put them on opposit sides of the bowl, then rotate around the bowl after the smoke starts getting thin and work your way in to the center.

others are gonna say that u need to use naturals, but i think quicklites are good enough, allot less fuss too.

BushBr is on the money.

It's all down to how you pack and prepare the bowl and heat management.

Time and experience will see you there smile.gif

I'm smoking nahkla cherry right now and I am getting big clouds and lovely flavour!

thats the thing i talked to him for a bit, he uses the same shisha as me, ut i didnt ask him about the coal. becuase the 40 mm coals are so big what i do is put it only half way on the bowl, and rotate it every 15 min's so the shisha dosent burn to fast making a harsh taste. do you guys have any coal/coal placement suggestions in which i can manage the heat for enough smoke, but not burn the shisha to fast?

Break it clean in half and use each 1/2 on two opposite sides of the bowl.

I, personally, don't move my coals at all until they are dead.

Also - what kind of tobacco are you using?

i'm gonna try breaking it in half tonight that sounds like a good idea. I'm using Al fakher, i have a bunch of flavors but i ussualy do Plum Mint or Sweet melon because they are just amazing. It's a very strong shisha but it's amazing, i think the breaking it in half is a really good idea, i just hope it won't burn harsh ohmy.gif

I use two jap coals opposite of eachother and add new ones when the other ones die to the sides of where the dead ones used to be. Works for me with 3 rows of toothpick holes.

i used to get 45 mins of harsh, taste-like-ass smoke and thought i was the dog's bollocks too tongue.gif now i cant stand a harsh bowl, if i have one i almost puke and my other friends would be like "wtf its fine :S"

anyways back on topic.. dont try adding things to make the smoke thicker, just work on your technique. as other have mentioned try breaking the coal in half/quarters..make sure ur shisha is fluffy and lightly packed, coals are well lit, holes are not too small (toothpick sized is perfect) or too much. if the smoke is thin and flavour is weak, try adding a windcover. always helps me, when i start my bowl i put it on and take it off when its going good and when the flavour/smoke die down i put it back on. people say it depends on the shisha too... i've found the wetter the shisha, the thicker the smoke but i've got pretty impressive clouds from nakhla. so just try different techniques and stick to the one you like best smile.gif good luck!

thanks alot guys, the splitting of the coals has REALLY up'd the smoke and yea packing the shisha i found out is really really important. I was packing it way too tight and full so it burnt way to fast, i tried a few techniques that you guys sugested tonight and i was getting some really thick, smooth smoke..thanks for all your help!

Well it seems like you got your problem fixed, but one thing that has helped me get thicker smoke was using foils over screens.

ya, i think its becuz the foil allows for less oxygen to escape from the top

A few drops of lime juice or lemon juice on the shisha before smoking... WOW!

does that make more smoke? or is it for a taste factor?

more smoke definately, adds a hint of citrus.. but the smoke is extra thick.

i tried a few different things last night and so far i figured out that Ice water gives a nice amount of smoke, and cutting a 40 mm coal into 4 pieces and having 1 piece of every side gives a pretty good amount of heat managment. I'm thinking about switching to natural coals, but every one says there isnt that much of a difference and the insta lights are just easier
