Voski
ProcrastinationI have no control over it I can't start doing anything until I'm at the moment where I have just enough time to get it done before its due. Its like I subconsciously calculate how long it takes me to do something and wont start it until I have no time to spare. Anyone else like this or was like this? I have an entire chapter worth of homework due on Monday along with an exam (7 sections 50ish problems each). I also have an exam on Friday and I haven't studied at all =(
Doubon
I am exactly the same way. I'm sure others are as well, it's not all that uncommon. All of highschool I would wait until the night before to write a paper or do a project, and for exams, I rarely studied. Strangely, it worked well for me. However, the practice of procrastination hasn't served me too well in college. I have a month before the semester ends and I'm freaking about Algebra (math ain't my thing). But the truth is, you really do have control over it. I learned the hard way... that it's all about managing your time well. If you're anything like me when it comes to procrastinating you probably consider other things to be more important to you and you can't find the time study. Sucks, I'm still having trouble adjusting to all the studying I have to do for each of my classes.
Voski
I'm exactly the same way. I can honestly say i put in 0 effort in high school and I graduated with a 3.7 GPA even with a lot of Cs in 9th and 10th grade. College is different though Calculus is bending me over and I need to actually review for chemistry since theres so much being thought I just cant remember what the teacher says 3 hours a week. I'm gonna request a month off of work so I have more time to study and such. I'm trying though I plan to not sleep untill I have done all my chem homework and its due on friday so im doing it before I normally would

MechAnt
Ahhh yes, of course GCC. That's where 10% of my high school goes. The other 90% is in the UC system LOL. Fucking CV.
Voski
Yea the worst part is I could have gotten into the UC system no problem I had a high SAT too. Worst case scenario right now is that I have to withdrawal from my math class so I don't get a C or D or F but a W instead =D.
gaia.plateau
It's an ugly, ugly disease.Want to hear the worst part about procrastination? It gets worse and exponentially worse as you advance in school. It could be that you start to get more cynical, or you get bored or disenchanted, but my personal theory is that you get overconfident in your abilities. In my opinion, procrastination comes from the subliminal knowledge of your own capabilities, that you can get an assignment done satisfactorily, if not optimally, even doing it at the last minute. It's a battle between the Id and the Superego, and the Id has a hell of a lot more ammo. Edited March 26, 2008 by gaia.plateau

I remember what it's like being 18-21 and having to juggle a social life with school... I assign a project that is due at the end of the semester. It counts for 75% of the class grade. The reason I do this is because if you can pass my project I know you understand the material... (I teach Jazz Composition/Arranging among other things) I constantly monitor my students on their projects. I have an open door policy plus I schedule time for each student to meet with me weekly. The only exception is my 4th years and grad students. In those classes they also have a project that I count 75% of the class grade due at the end of the semester, but I don't give them the guidelines until the week before it's due. (The reason for this is if you make to my 4th year or are a grad student, you are usually planning to make your living composing/arranging and I want to make it as "Real world" as possible..I call you and basically say this is what I need, and I need in 5 days...) Usually my 1st years hate me being so hands on, but by the time they are ready to graduate I have them thanking me for pushing them and monitoring their progress so closely. Capt. Morgan
I forgot who told me this but it does ring true. "Procrastination is like masturbating. It feels good at the time but in the end all your doing is fucking yourself."
