AffordableHookah
QUOTE (nat3r @ Mar 26 2008, 07:08 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>i puff, however i found that i cant create enough force to pull the smoke into the water and out of my hose with my mouth, like with a cig/cigar/pipe you use oral suction, but i cant seem to do it with a hookah, anyone know why?im also thinking it may be the hookah im using, it has a few leaksYeah, you may be putting too much water in the base. Try using less, just so the stem is submerged a little bit. Once you have the stem submerged over 1/2 inch (about) more water has no positive affect on smoke/draw quality, it can only get worse. Bulldog_916
I've been doing both for the last couple of smokes. I find that I'm getting more flavor through the puffing. If I'm looking to buzz and relax, I'll inhale. Maybe it isnt a good idea to fully inhale. Maybe that is why middle easterners are not experiencing the full health effects of their hookah smoking. Because they choose to do it through puffing. If you just puff, there is nothing or very little entering the lungs to cause damage. America and the west has chosen to do it the more dangerous way...true?

NJE03
I usually inhale, didn't really puff before but shall now try it most likely.

Yamin
I used to puff in Iran, but I was constantly told "Mesleh Kos Mikeshe" by my cousins. (Smoke's like a pussy) so now I just inhale...
AmunRa
I have always inhaled. I tried the puffing thing once, and it just isn't the same. I don't get any flavor unless I inhale, and like JD said, it's like silk!
r1v3th3ad
the only time I don't inhale is after there was too much heat, while the smoke is still too harsh...other than that, I always take lung fulls
Hookah_Bob3
I don't see how people can puff on hookahs. The physics aren't there for it, really.

Hookah_Bob3
Pressure. Puffing (as I define it) is only taking the smoke into your mouth with only the suction you can make with your mouth. I think you all are defining a "puff" as a short inhale
mj_b90
Bulldog, puffing does not eliminate the health risks associated with smoking hookah/cigars/cigarettes whatever. Just because the smoke isn't filling your lungs doesn't make you completely safe. You're still at risks for all kinds of oral cancers and other nasty things...but if you're so worried about those things you should just work on kicking your smoking habit rather than changing the way you do it. Bulldog_916
Look, I'm not saying it eliminates the risks. I'm saying that you may reduce the risks by not inhaling as much by volume. Huge lung-fulls of smoke cant be good for you, we know that. But only taking the smoke in your mouth and maybe inhaling a much smaller amount could reduce the amount of toxins you take in. I'm just floating the theory out there. It isnt a "do it full-boar or dont to it at all" practice. If you have paid attention to half the responses to this post, the amount of people that puff and or inhale is about the same, it isnt a either or type thing. I just found that letting the smoke in my mouth more than my lungs enhances the flavors that I can taste. May be different for you. Who knows.
