I've done websites before but pretty basic ones.
Also I haven't designed in a while....

The programm I used was dreamweaver...

Its a nice program because you can design in code and if you get stuck switch to the display layout and design that way, thus it makes it easier to start off with for beginners, but alows advanced work to.

+1 to Dreamweaver. I took a web design class in high school and the first half of the class we did all hard code with html, and the second half we used dreamweaver, and it makes things much easier

Ya it is a really nice programm .....I started off using HTML editor which was only code and then going into dreamweaver....so ya its a really nice programm one of my favorites along with Photoshop.

The thing is that if something goes wrong in the design mode then you need to know the code so you cn go fix it there...if you know what I mean...

Just like Ryno I took a class in highschool, we had to design a website hardcode and then another in dreamweaver.. I did both hardcode biggrin.gif Got some bonus points from the teacher.

I really wouldnt mind getting back into this kind of thing.. now i just need to find the time..

Dreamweaver/Fireworks are good
i used Microsoft Publisher to do my friends, Publisher is very simple, they have great templates

though back in the day i created a site purely using fireworks and a series of pictures and flash animations, was awesome

Some things from back in the day were good...but then again I am from not that far back...but I noticed Now that where I started with HTML the new grade nines are now using dreamweaver instead...which is good because its a great programm....but I still think they should have started on HTML editor

Dreamweaver is a crutch.

Just get a good notepad app like Vim.

P.S. - Colt, you still haven't said what kind of website you're looking for. What do you want to present? Just a simple page, or a dynamic website that can take stats from the server and display them real-time, along with a forum?
