Question about frequency of inhaling

Recommended Posts

Hey, I love this forum!!
I've had total insomnia the last few days so I think I've officially
read 80% of the site.Ya'll have some great insights on just about ever
part of hookah'ing.

Well,
I just received my 10 pack of shisha from HookahHub and wow-
totally right that Melon is the $hit!
I am new to hookahing, and was so pleased to get my shisha a full 2
days ahead of schedule! (next day on a 3 day shipping service)!
So instead of waiting until monday for my Tasqeem Stargate (I HOPE its
monday, Im dying to get it!!!)...I broke down and bought and overpriced
hookah to get my through the weekend.

Well, first night...awesome, smoked 4 bowls and loved the taste and
lightness to the smoke. Except, I thought you had to smoke it pretty
much puff,puff,puff...breathe...puff...puff...and ended up smoking
Wayyyyy toooo muchhh and well..puking and having a killer headache for
HOURS.
But oh well, lived through that
So here are my questions (that I havent had answered in what ive read so far):

1) How often are you supposed to inhale to keep the coal burning?
If you are smoking by yourself and not with others (to keep it
rolling)...can you take a 1 minute break? 5 minute break? What sort of
frequency of hitting the pipe is best? I mean smoking every 20 seconds
a full hit...for 30-40 minutes is a lot of smoke...really. Especially
over the course of a few bowls.

2)When NOT hitting the bowl (waiting to pass to a friend or waiting to
hit again)- with a SINGLE hose hookah- Are you supposed to STOP it up?
(it= hose)??
Or can you just keep it open to the air whiel waiting for next hit? Does it matter?
THANKS!
love the forum, ill be posting reviews of each of these if yall are interested.
Sorry for inital long post...but, curious..
--- Off to smoke another bowl of the Orange HH
- Peace!

The coals should keep burning on their own whether you are hitting them or not. So you can take your time between puffs.
You don't need to plug your hose when you aren't hitting, you ny need to d that if you have a multi hose with no auto-seal.
Welcome to the Forum and thejoys of nicotine poisoning...

You probably just got a bit sick from the sudden increase of nicotine
in your life. If you haven't really smoked anything before ie: ciggs,
cigars or pipe than your body isn't used to all the nicotine. Your body
will adjust shortly.

I've noticed that when smoking when I have to take a 5 minute break and
go to the bathroom right in the middle of my session that when I get
back and start puffing, not much smoke comes out. But 1 minute later of
puffing it is back to normal.

With coals on top, a quick break doesn't hurt anything.

I just try to pace myself. I've learned that I cant sit and smoke 3 bowls by myself in one sitting lol.

When Im with a bunch of friends, and there are several hookah's, I tend to take a long while between puffs.

When I got my first hookah, I couldnt wait to smoke it. I set it up(Al waha strawberry, rolland coals... harsh as sh*t... ),
and smoked the entire huge bowl by myself in about 45 minutes. I had
never smoked that much, and I felt really nautious for several hours. I
swore I'd never do it again.

Think of it like drinking. A good ammount is different for everyone-
you just have to figure out where your limits are. And, just like
drinking... too much will make you sick =P

I've found Al-Amir tobacco is good if you want a lengthy smoke without a huge buzz. I'm more of a flavour man myself, and find the likes of Nakhla/Havana a bit too strong after a while.Al-Amir Blackberry.. mmm

hey man, I'm new to the forum too, but I've smoked the hookah since high school.  Smoking hookah is like anything else.  A clean hit off a quality hookah is unlike anything else you can smoke, and once your lungs adapt, you can take pretty large rips.  I like to take my time though....relax and let it soak in
