Tazering An 11 Year Old?

Recommended Posts

So I'm whatching some show right now, and they're talking about a school Supervisor that tazered an 11 year old because she was being unruly. She was hitting her teacher and spitting on them. What are your thoughts?

My thoughts? BS, an 11 year old? Come on, I don't care how bad she's acting, if the officer (which the person tazering is) isn't in shape enough to contain ANY 11 year old, they SHOULD NOT be an officer. I ALSO think it's horrible that the child is doing this...but tazering? COME ON! Ridiculous IMO

Geeze, I'd say that the little brat should be suspended (or expelled if it's a frequent happening)... but tazered? Unless she's waving a chef knife or a gun around or something, I'd say that's a little overboard for an 11 year old blink.gif

I'm afraid that the little bastard deserved it.

In my day if i'd have done that to a teacher I'd have got the fucking Cane or a board eraser over the head.
Kids have no respect.

And I don't have to worry about it happening to my kids - They were brought up correctly and would never behave like this...... See how that works?

1. I don't believe any kid should be tazered, unless wielding a weapon
2. Thats not right...that much voltage can kill them...jump their heart the wrong way
3. +1 about the officer not being able to contain them

Its b.s. that they tazered the kid, seems U.S. is tazer happy lately. I just saw last week on the Pittsburgh news that a cop tried to tazer a guy and he turned it around on her. I would do the same if someone tried to taze me...there were a few tazings lately at IUP

If anything, if the kid is too much to handle(as in be able to contain when fighting and such), mace the bastard, that'll do it and it wont kill them unless they are allergic to the chems

naw.. I think if the kid is out of control to the point of violence then do what you have to to take them down, then off the the psych ward. If it takes a tazering to bring them down, so be it. and no, i don't have kids, but it did teach 4th and 5th grade.

I have nothing against corporal punishment, just not in excess...like tazering. But come on, an 11 yr. old...If an officer can't contain an 11 yr. old then maybe they shouldn't be an officer of any sort.

an 11 year old assaulting teachers is nothing to take lightly. 11 year old have been known to shoot and or seriously injure people. Plus I've seen some pretty hefty 11 year olds. Why should a cop run the risk of injury to take down an unrulely person, kid or adult? A taser is most often non-lethal and it puts an immediate end to the problem and it teaches people an important lesson, you want to do ANYTHING you can to avoid being tasered again.

you let an 11 year old kick you real hard in say the knee and see how fast you are walking afterwards.

I think the kid should be institutionalized for observation and the parents should be held responsible for theiur kids actions.

This reflects my point of view. Can't offer proper comment about Tazers as we don't have them in the uk. But certainly when a kid is at that point an 11 year old is capable of fairly insane actions [Hormones starting to go wild] and the situation has to be brought under control.

It will also show other kids that such behaviour cannot be tollerated (rightly or wrongly) and as such may have done more good than any harm. The kid survived and should be in teh psych ward and the parents should be in court.

Sorry but IMO I have to agree with this!

If kids are being unruly( spelling blink.gif ) to a point of them being uncontrolable , then actions must be taken ( starting from weakest until strongest) until an end is brought to the situation.

Even I, not being an adult yet , see the way younger kids are disrespectful and generally don't care at all.

Just to clarify the situation a bit. The person doing the tasering was the school's "resource officer," that is, a police officer who is assigned to the school. The girl was taser after she physically confronted teachers and then punched the policewoman in the nose.

Thanks for clarifying.

In that situation obviously tazering needed to be done. A 11 year old assaulting a "police officer" . Certain things need to be done to end the situation!!!

Tasering is not meant to be a form of punishment or torture. The only time when using a taser is appropriate is when there is no other way to incapacitate someone (after mase and physical force fail).

Unless you're a 75 pound cop there is no excuse for tasering an 11 year old that could be easily incapacitated by other means.

Including electrocution?

I don't give two shits about the kid, I'm just kind of depressed for the country in question when this kind of blatant abuse of power is accepted and tolerated. Edited by gaia.plateau

Well if electrocution was needed and everyhting before failed then yes.

but my opinion is as you correctly quoted form weakest to strongest in order to end the situation.

I say the little brat deserved it. You dont spit on anyone and you dont assault an officer. I'd of taken her to the ground and broken her face if she did that kind of shit to me. Knight sticks to the knees then the dome works too. But tasering gets it done faster and without face breaking.

I cant believe anyone would believe this is acceptable!

This is a child were talking about, not even a teenager! As an educator, you learn how to deal with unruly children, and using a gun substitute is not a very good way.

You do not use force on a child.
No matter what they do to deserve it. You give them a time out, suspension, detention, whatever. Not force.

Personally, as a criminal justice person, I believe that force can be used on anyone spitting on or hitting a person. I don't know if you've seen 11 year olds this day but some of those kids are the size of adults. I can only hope that if my kid is acting like a complete ass his or her principle will shoot them in the back with a tazer so they dont see it coming. Then if they try to get up I want the teacher who was taking my kid's shit to hit em with a shot of mace just for good times.

This brings me to my main theory on parenting: MAYBE IF YOU FUCKING BEAT YOUR CHILDREN ON OCCASSION THEY WOULDN'T ACT LIKE COMPLETE ASSHOLES.

While I'd like to say the kid deserved it, the tazer was very inappropriate. There are other ways to get a child in control that won't put their life in danger. Tazers have been lethal in a number of public incidents, and aren't safe for that sort of use. Grown adults shouldn't need a tazer to subdue an 11 year old girl anyway, and as someone else said...they aren't supposed to be used as a form of punishment. Edited by Ralleac

How hard could an 11 yr old punch?
Im not taking the kids side, by any means, I just dont think using a taser on a child is appropriate.
