if a cop or security guard can`t even handle an 11 year old he/she should look for another job. tazering a young kid is just not right.

she was a big girl based on the pic ive seen of her, and she had diminished mental capability which with some people means they are much much stronger then average 11 year olds. if the kid is throwing punches.. what do you do?

i agree that this kid should face consequences for her actions. but if she is mentally uncapable of realizing what she is actually doing, it is better to restrain her and get her institutionalized (so she can get proffesional help) than using excessive violence (because she probably won`t understand the situation anyway and get even more upset).

but then again, i wasn`t there and it may have been a last resort for the officer in question.

he was punched while trying to restrain her..

than it must have been quite a BIG girl. does tazering leave any permanent damage, or do the effects wear off like with mace?

As far as I know effects wear off. but if someone could please confirm that , that would be great!

Tasering only leaves permanent damage if used execively. Generally, you might have small marks from where the taser touched your skin (I've been tased and it burnt holes in my shirt lol....but this wasn't by a police officer, etc...just a friend with a personal taser, not quite as powerful as the ones police carry...depending wink.gif ) But no, being tased is not supposed to leave any type of long term damage. Then it is safe to assume this story was played on some sappy Oprah-esque talkshow and told by the student.

I just get really mad when peopleget blinded by the truth because " oh well she was a child and she did not deserve to be tazzered"
EXCUSE me , but if an 11 year old is in the state of mind that she can punch an officer of the law in the face, then she must be dealt with accordingly though. But none of this " lets have the officers badge" s**t . what a load of rubbish.

Pretty much, man, pretty much.

Was the officer following protocol? I haven't heard that addressed. If the officer was following a set protocol, than The whole thing is a non-issue, unless you believe the protocol needs to be changed.

Well I don't know thats what I have been saying the whole time we don't know what the officer did I haven't had time to read the news thing. But from what I read from posts he did I think???

Personally, I'd like to taser every 11 year old.

I support this.

Well I know if I were tazered when I was 11 I sure as hell wouldnt have done the same thing again. All Im sayin is it maybe be a little far fetched but if they just get suspended that isnt going to accomplish anything. I know when I got suspended from high school back in the day I just felt like it was extra vacation.

A more complete story on this:

http://www.wcsh6.com/news/watercooler/arti...x?storyid=83671

"... In this case, this student, it is my understanding she is approximately 5-foot-5, which is my height, and she is approximately 160 to 170 pounds, so this is a pretty big student," one official said.

EDIT to add my opinion: With a child like that, I full agree with the officer's actions. I also believe that using a tazer brings a lot less heat on the officer than if physical force were used, such as kneeing the kid in the chest.

As long as they follow protecol , it is all good IMO. And in this case it seems like the officer was.

170 lb 11 year old girl = 170 lb 20 year old male IMO. I'd have tasered that "kid" too. As I've stated previously though, I am a tad biased, considering I'd like to tase every 11 year old. The list doesn't end with 11 year olds though. Edited by Perrj99

this is wrong on the cops part

cops are told not to use a taser unless the perpetrator intends to severely harm others, such as wielding a gun

Orrr when they've been assulted themselves. As the officer was when he was punched in the nose by a 170 lb individual, 11 year old girl or not. Edited by Perrj99

i agree, he should have brought out the baton and showed her who could hit harder...

but seriously.. if i was a cop and someone had a gun pointed at me, the taser would be last thing id go for.. id get a gun and shoot the person in the head. no 2nd thoughts, because at that point its their life or mine and since they started it, i will finish them.

tasering is more to get people under control and its more effective then mace because mace can be ignored by someone on drugs while tasering physically stops you.

she was a 170 pound girl with diminished mental capabilities. if he brought out the pepper spray he probably would have affected himself and probably a portion of the school due to ventilation. the taser was the best option. Edited by Canon

The use of technology to induce compliance disgusts me. If cops wanna use tazers to get control of a dangerous situation, by all means, taze away. When they use them on people who are already subdued, its just plain fucked up. Whatever happened to an asp to the shins, or digging their knee into the back of someone they already have on the ground? Yeah, those methods of gaining control may cause mild injury, but if people are being that disrespectful to the police maybe they just have it coming, and its still less likely to cause cardiac arrest or anything else requiring hospitalization.

In this case, I doubt the student understood how serious of an offense it is to assault an officer. An adult law enforcement officer should have had no problem simply physically overpowering the girl to arrest her. Police using tazers as a "solve-all" to the challenges they face in their line of work is unnecessary.

have you read the recent posts in this thread? do you know anything about the student except her age? and to be honest, not all cops can take out everyone on the streets. i say until you walk in their shoes you have no idea how bad it is. Edited by Canon

That, and no one seems to have realized that the cop in question was a female. Now, at the risk of sounding sexist, I believe that the cop might have been in the right. A female cop would, I imagine, be more likely to be unable to control a situation with physical force. I don't have any info to support this next statement, but that could be why she was equipped with a tazer in the first place. Besides, the kid broke her nose. That's gotta count for something, right?

I didn't read many posts, but I read the article http://www.wcsh6.com/news/watercooler/arti...x?storyid=83671. I'm not expecting officers to be able to "take on everyone in the streets", i said i don't have a problem with using tazers on people in dangerous situations, which includes being faced with a person posing a risk that an officer would not do well in a physical confrontation with (EDIT: assuming the person was threatening the officer, or something like that).

I have a very hard time believing that an officer would have a hard time overpowering an 11 year old. Am i expecting too much out of the people who are there to uphold laws? (EDIT: even mace would have been justified, but i'm not convinced tasering was) Edited by OPR234

she was as mature as a 5 year old. she was accused of pushing a boy into the street and apon questioning she threw a chair or a desk, things got out of hand enough to where they had to call the officer in, when the officer was trying to control the girl she punched the officer in the face. most of the PARENTS of children of the school that were there say the tazering was justified.. which coming from a parent of a child from the same age as the child that got tazed means alot more then some random people on the forum.

kids, especially some with mental disorders, can be quiet strong. the officer had to go to the hospital later on cause of the kid punching him in the face.

but if people say that the tazering was justified that were there and have children of the same age, and the officer had to go to the hospital i say tazer her ass. sorry but thats my opinion. if my children ever act out like that im giong to make their lives hell (no im not supporting child abuse)

to add to that, she was 170 pounds and the officer was a female and who knows how big/small she was.

if she decided to use physical force like hitting the child i believe that would have been wrong. tazering doesnt injure someone Edited by Canon

Even so, cops are trained in self defense, its the cops fault for letting her guard down around someone who was obviously unstable and letting the girl hit her in the face. That isnt to say cops are capable of avoiding every injury, but cmon, if a cop cant stop a single punch to the face by some who im assuming has no martial arts training or anything like that, then something is wrong.
