Majid
Just broke my third hookah in 3 years time..thick as hell quarter inch glass isn't safe from me. I'll have to buy another since i can't find a vase that fits my screw on stem. I want to get an acrylic vase one so i don't break it again, although i hate it aesthetically speaking.. Was wondering if it makes a difference in function, cleaning, durability etc. And if someone has suggestions on wich one i should get.
paiintballa182
Not a ton. Some say it absorbs smell, but nothing a good cleaning cant fix. But beware, acrylic is still somewhat fragile
r1v3th3ad
I like acrylic, but after aging, they tend to leak/crack...otherwise, great smoke, thats what the local hookah bar uses
Victim026
My acrylic has now lasted 2 years, it's cracked and beaten to hell but none of the cracks leak and it's just as airtight as the day I bought it. It cracked from heat/cold though not from age. I could still prolly drop the thing from 2 stories up and not have it break when it hit the concrete below. Not to mention it's invaluable when it comes to taking a hookah to a party with clumsy ass drunk people.
Majid
Thanks for the advice, but so far i could only find some cheap iranian wobbly acrilic hookah. If anyone knows a proper one let me know. Too bad concrete blocks are so porous, that's about what i need durability wise. I decided to get a 40 dollar hookah with a 10 dollar spare vase. tjt486
I really like my Mya acrylic hookah.Heres something I found real quick regarding Acrylic vs glass (this is referring to aquariums, but you get the idea)For one, acrylic is 17x stronger than glass, softer and more flexible than glass, making it highly impact resistant.Secondly, acrylic weighs 50% less than glass, making it much more portable.Thirdly, acrylic insulates 20% better than glass, which reduces temperature fluctuations and saves on heating and chiller bills. If these benefits aren't enough, the seams of acrylic tanks are molecularly welded. The resin used to seal them chemically melts the two pieces of material into one solid piece for a clear polished seam that is virtually unable to leak.Another advantage of acrylic is that it has a transparency rating of 93%, which is as clear as optical glass. In fact acrylic passes the most light of any known material. For all of these reasons virtually all modern public aquariums are made from acrylic. And while acrylic can scratch, scratches are easily buffed out of acrylic without having to remove fish or water. Many myths have been laid to rest about acrylic. Some believed it could turn brittle or yellow with time. Plastic can do this, but acrylic does not. Others believe acrylic tanks bow and distort. An acrylic tank made to proper specifications will not bow or distort. One caveat about acrylic that my be important to know, however, is that it is flammable. You won't want to create ambiance by setting a burning candle on top of your tank. Edited April 1, 2008 by tjt486
jordanneff
Well, my first hookah was acrylic. It was alright, smoked decently for the cheap POS it was.I really can't say there's much of a difference between acrylic and glass as far as smoke quality goes. I did notice that acrylics seem to be a bit louder when they bubble, at least I thought so but maybe it was just because my acrylic was smaller than my glass one.Honestly though, even if you are clumsy you can get replacement bases fairly cheap. It'd probably cost less to replace your base than to buy an acrylic hookah, even if you broke 2 more of them. I'd say as long as you're happy with the glass base hookah you had then just get a replacement base. I mean, if you go around dropping dinner plates, sure you could get plastic or paper plates, they function the same, but when you pull them out it just makes you feel sorta.... cheap lol
baller5555
well my friend had an acrylic hookah. and it smoked like a champ everytime. Also if you are clumbsy with your hookahs than i say you should invest into a mya acrylic.
nathan_Choi
My mya acrylic works like a charm. The one I had before it, a glass egyptian of dubious quality, has nothing on this one. Personally I don't really taste/feel a difference between an acrylic or glass, but that's just me.
