MR Bubble
Got my new bowl in from hookah-shisha. You know, the one with the built in cover and screen. I'm smoking Nakhla apple through it with the screen. First time I ever had a metal screen hit like this! Wow! I can't believe the gobs of smoke! This is a larger surface area than what I am used to, since I always use my standard clay Egyptian bowls, so I don't know exactly how to manage my coals for this. I saw the larger area and decided to use 3 one-half pieces of three kings. So that equals 1 1/2 discs in all. It sure is making the smoke. however, MRS Bubble just coughed up her past-life from it hitting so hard. I have a case of the crud and can't taste if it's burning. Am I using too many coals here? I would think if I'm getting all the smoke and am happy, I did it right, but since I'm having a tough time tasting, I may have it all wrong. My own pleasur isn't so joyous if others are miserable. Ahhhhhhhhhh! What do you guys think? MR Bubble
mushrat
Well.... Is the mrs. tasting good flavour? If so you're doing just fine and its your lack of taste () thats the problem. You are usually a foil guy right? the screens are far more open so you will be getting FAR more air flow and smoke. I'd say drop back to 2 coals and see what happens...but why Am I telling you this? You've been smoking years longer than I have....
cambo
trying to decide if i should order that bowl...do you think its worth the $15 + $7shipping?
Lakemonster
it sounds like you are using too much coal......... when that lid is down, it holds in the heat pretty well. Can be easy to burn your tobacky till you get it figured out.... When this starts to happen.... go ahead and flip the lid up and let it cool. The really nice thing is that when you have small coals left... and the smoke is starting to taper off..... you can drop that lid back on it and it drags out the life of the coal. MR Bubble
trying to decide if i should order that bowl...do you think its worth the $15 + $7shipping?
Haven't decided yet. I'm going to play around with it and do a "product review," to give you (and I) a better feel for it. MR Bubble

jmexx
Too much coal. I use that bowl, but with tinfoil. I would imagine that changing the coal with that cover would be a disaster. Another thing I find, after a coal or something two, the rubber that's needed for it gets soft and the bowl doesn't sit tight. That worries me just because I get paranoid with that sort of thing.Just my 2 cents, it's good to be back in this forum :-)Jon
Lakemonster
I noticed the same thing. I corrected this problem by doubling up two bowl grommets. I also make sure that the grommets are dry and I wipe dry the inside of the bowl where it seats up.
