Question about Hoses and pulling smoke

Recommended Posts

I don't know about you guys, but when I smoke, I always want to get as much smoke in as possible. I personally have a not-too-big 31' Egyptian King Hookah from smooking-hookah and they were nice enough to hook me up with free cobra hoses, which i have to say are kinda crappy. The wood part that connects to the shaft is way too long and i had to manually cut it down by almost 2 inches. even that, it still doesn't pull enough smoke to make me happy. The guys from smoking-hookah offered me great service, after i told them about the hoses they sent me another one (sadly another same cobra hose) with some grommets.

My question is, when it comes to pulling out more smoke, is it depending on the size of the hookah? the hoses? or something else? (regardless coals). Will getting a bigger hose help me to pull more smoke while smoking? I've tried smoking with a tundora hose on my hookah and I *believe there was a difference. I dunno, if it's true, recommend me a nice giant hose please :D

I'd say hose diameter and length are important. cobra hoses are apparenlty known for restricted airflow due to the bend. I've used several types of hoses at my local cafe, and I still say my mya washable at home hits the best. And it's a 72".
Also keep in mind if you are using foil, fewer/smaller holes means less air flow, thus less smoke flow. I use screens and if its smoking, it's SMOKING.

i've heard the screens are not as good as the old fashion foils or at least, not as preferable as them. everytime i pack the bowl, i alawys make the holes as small as possible and have them all over the foil as close as possible. i believe smaller holes prevent the shisha from burning because i like to pull really hard and for a really long time (5sec or longer non-stop) but if using a screen with bigger holes will give me the amount of smoke in less time, then i won't pull as long. so do the shisha get burned easier when you're using a screen?

Straight to the source...though some other sites sell them as well....
Screens take practice but a FEW of us prefer them...

I've mentioned this in the past, but I like to use vinyl tubing bought
from Home Depot. They sell it in the plumbing isle, and it just looks
like a spool of clear plastic looking tube.

Its like 2.99 for 10' of it, or what I like to do is buy the big roll for 3.99 for 20'. I then just cut it into sections.

Its super easy to clean, and they have different diameters. These things let in way more smoke than any hose your used to also.

People were questioning the health and safety of these hoses, but on
the label it claims that these are safe for water and food use, and are
approved by some government organization, so thats ok in my book.

Pick one up next time your at home depot and see if you like them. If you don't, they're cheap and you won't feel bad throwing it away.

i went through the same thing you did. My first hookah came with a
cheap, crappy hose. I replaced it with a Tunsi hose(similar to cobra),
and had the same problems. Why ANYONE would smoke with either of these
is beyond me.

I bought a Mya hose, and havent looked back. It pulls MUCH better than a cobra/tunsi hose, and you will be very happy with it

I had a sheik hose that was really hard to pull. I took it apart and
found that the hot melt glue that stuck the hose to the handle had a
big glob that obstructed 75% of the airflow. Now it draws well, but
looks cheesy with duct tape holding it together.

I do have a cobra hose with mya style hosing(hosery? hose?) that pulls
just as well as my standard mya hoses. I don't think cobra hoses are
flawed in design, just the execution or build quality.

ab21,
I don't know what kind of hose I have but it was $20 from my local
hookah bar and it works great. It has a plastic straight mouth piece
that has a 1/4" hole through it to pull from!! The hose isn't that
long, maybe 3-3 1/2 feet long and the hose is just as thick as the
mouth piece.  When I can, I'll post a pic of it so you can
see.  As for the hookah, I have a 30 inch Syrian that works
awesome, it's not too small and it's definitely not big. also with the
foil, screens work good and so does foil, it's really personal
preference. When I use foil I use Reyonlds Heavy Duty foil and poke
about 12-20 small slits with the edge of a knife evenly spread along
the top of the foil and it works just fine, screns will work great too
and not burn the shisha too fast either, when it comes to screens,
managing your coal properly is the essential key. Good luck and I hope
that I helped answer some of your inquiries.

Yashman 19, I give you mad props bro on your home made hoses. My friend
and I went to Lowes last night and bought the tubing you suggested,
3/4" outer diameter and 5/8" inner diameter and cut the hose down to
about 5-6 feet from 10 feet and stuffed a mouthpiece and the wooden end
that sticks into the stem of the nargile on both ends of it and the
damn thing smokes great and looks different too since it's clear. So
thanks again for the tip and everyone that wants a good hose that pulls
great do this, it's not hard to do and it kicks ass!

Here's what I found with a lot of cobra hoses.
The wooded part of them (that plugs into the hose) is sometimes not drilled all the way through. You know what I've always said about Egyptian build quality. If you have one that can be detached from the hose, you can usually ream it out (CAREFULLY) with about a 1/4" bit. Same with the wood end that plugs into the machine.
The better design is the cobra head that plugs into the tundra hose. These hoses are not nearly as good as the Mya (or what are refered to as the Mya) but that are wonderful with the long handle. Very comfortable and give you a feeling of royalty. The downside is that they don't last, and the metal wiring inside tend to break down. The concept of them would dictate the hose would be very cheap, but they aren't here.
