One thing you may want to check is the water level in your base. In the beginning, I was putting too much water in and for some reason it kind of restricted airflow to the hose or whatever the hell was going on and I was just sucking the heat into the shisha and not getting the smoke the right way, until eventually the shisha burnt. See to it that your water is only 1 inch to 1 and a half inches up the stem...holding your hookah up to a light might help you see this better. Believe me, this sounds minor but it can make a world of difference.
