Okay dude look at the box does it have a bar code on it? If so thats the new ones. If not thats the old ones. Let us know if they are new or pld. This may be the difference.

Thanks, Neal

No Barcode on the box, I would say these are the new ones..

In response to the questions I was reading.

I light the coals on my back porch with a coil burner, set it on high, place the coals on for 4-5 minutes, turn them over, another 4-5 minutes. They were a solid orange color all the way through when no lights were on, With the light on there were visible cracking all over the square pieces I had broke.

The smell during the lighting isn't so much because it's outside, but it was VERY apparent during the session, my brother who is down the hall about 40 feet was complaining about what the heck was smelling. Very abrasive to the nose.

I'll definately give keeping them on the stove longer and such a try. Although for my thoughts, the best coals are ones that don't need such care in lighting. smile.gif

good exoticas dont crack or smell. i was lucky to be sent a couple good sticks by snoopy. i ALWAYS lit them inside, on a gas burner. within 5 mins they were good all around. no smell whatsoever, no cracks, no taste.
